HomeMy WebLinkAbout1978-OR-11ORDINANCE NO. 78-0R- ' An Ordinance Defining First-Class Patrolman and First-Class Fireman for Jeffersonville, Indiana. WHEREAS, the present rank structure for the Police Department and Fire Department is not clear regarding the status of a first- class patrolman, or a first-class fireman; and WHEREAS, pension payments from the police and firemen's pensions fund based upon a percentage of the salary of a first-class patrolman, and first-class fireman; and WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of jeffersonville, Indiana desires to avoid problems and confusion due to this ambiguity; and WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of jeffersonvilte, Indiana desires to define a first-class patrolman in its Police Department, and a first-class fireman in its Fire Department, for the sole purpose of using such terms in determining eligibility for pension fund benefits; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED, by the CoF~on Council of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana, as follows: Section 1. A first-class patrolman is defined as a policeman, other than the Chief of Police or any o~her ranking officer, with Twenty (20) years of active service as a regular permanent policeman on the Police Department for the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana. Section 2. A first-class fireman is defined as a fireman other than the Fire Chief, or any other ranking officer, with Twenty (20) years of active service as a regular permanent fireman on the FiredDepartment for the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana. Section 3. This ordinance in no way alters or vacates or fireman may have under the Indiana Code.
