Tuesday August 7, 2001
The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville met in budget session August 7, 2001
at 6:00 PM. The meeting was held in the City County Building Room .318 Council
President Les Merkley called the meeting to order at 6:12 P.M., with Clerk Treasurer
Peggy Wilder and Chief Deputy Suzy Bass at the desk.
Roll call was taken and the following Councilpersons were present: Barbara Wilson, Les
Merkley, and Rob Waiz.
Absent: Councilpersons Denny Frantz, Ron Grooms, Vicki Conlin, and Ron Ellis.
Bev Knight, Youth Commission Director, appeared before the Council to give and update
on the Youth Commission. She also thanked the Council for their past and future
support. She acknowledge all supporters who were present. Several supporters spoke to
the Council and thanked them for their support and asked for continuing support.
The Council discussed the Mayor's Budget.
Clerk Treasurer Wilder discussed and answered any questions concerning the Clerk
Treasurer's Budget.
The Council discussed the City Attorney's Budget.
The Council directed the Clerk Treasurer to figure the budget at 3.5% salary increases
with the changes that were voted on and approved at the July 30, 2001 meeting and
increase the rest of the budget by 5%.
City Judge Vicki Carmichael appeared before the Council to discuss and answer any
questions concerning the City Court Budget.
Building Commissioner Bill Gavin appeared before the Council to discuss and answer
any questions concerning the Building Commission Budget.
Councilperson Wilson questioned whether the Council would still fund longevity pay for
civilian employees. The consensus was to keep paying longevity.
There being no further business to come before the l~ard the Council adjourned at 9 PM
