WHEREAS, the tragic occurences in the city of Atlanta have
caused grave concern nationwide for our young children and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council also being gravely concerRed
and in the hope that general recognition will assist in the pre-
vention of a similiar situation occuring in another part of the
S~ve the Children Day
in the nation,
country and
WHEREAS, the National Association for the Advancement of
Colored People has requested that April 18th be set aside as a
in this community as well as other areas
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Common Council and the
Mayor of the City of Jeffersonville express their deep condolences
to the families of these unfornuate children and do hereby declare
this April 18th to be Save the Children Day in jeffersonville, Indiana,
with the hope and prayer that special recogmition will in some way
preqent similar occurences in our nation generally and in particular
in our own community.
Adopted by the Common Council of the City of jeffersonville,
Indiana, this~day of April, 1981.
