HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000-R-36Resolution No. 2000-R- .,.,% ~ A Resolution of Support A Resolution of the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana in support of Jeffersonville Main Street Inc.'s application for a Great American Main Street Award through the National TruSt for Historic preservation's National Main Street Center. Let It Be Known That the City of Jeffersonville, a river town that welcomes the mighty Ohio River past its shores, the State of Indiana's Jewel in the South, the birthplace of great steamboats and barges from its shipyards, the holder of colossal basketball talents, a community that holds its history and roots dear, resolves that the well-being of its downtown, economically, environmentally, and culturally, is crucial to the well-being of the whole City of Jeffersonville; And Let It Be Resolved That Whereas, a nonprofit organization with the objective of revitalizing downtown Jeffersonville, entitled Jeffersonville Main Street Inc., has worked diligently towards this objective and is deserved of its effort to seek national recognition through the National Trust For Historic Preservation's "Great American Main Street Award," for its dedication to Downtown Revitalization, Historic Preservation, and Smart Growth; And Be It Resolved That Whereas, the City of Jeffersonville fully supports, and, through its Revolving Loan Program, Preservation Commission, Enterprise Zone and financial contributions to the downtown revitalization effort and commitment to maintaining local government offices in the downtown area, plays a major role in the effort to revitalize downtown Jeffersonville; Whereas, JeffersonVille Main Street Inc. has received support from the City of Jeffersonville, its residents, its businesses, and its other nonprofit organizations; Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved By The Common Council Of The City Of Jeffersonville, Indiana that said Council supports the Jeffersonville Main Street Inc, program and,,its philosophy of downtown revitalization, entailing economic restructuring, design, promotion, and organization, as a means to improve the livability of the entire community as Well as the economy, culture and built environment of downtown Jeffersonville with a sensible preservation ethic. Be It Known To The CItizens of Jeffersonville And Be It Further Resolved that the City of Jeffersonville fully supports Jeffersonville Main Street Inc.'s entry into the Great American Main Street Awards competition.
