COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF JEFFERSONVILLE, 1NDIANA
September 15, 2003
The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana met in regular session
in the Multi-Purpose Meeting Room in the City-County Building, Jeffersonville, Indiana,
at 7:30 P.M. on Monday, September 15, 2003.
Council President Rob Waiz, with Clerk Treasurer Peggy Wilder at the desk,
called the meeting to order. Also present was Deputy Clerk Barbara Hollis. Council
President Waiz welcomed all in attendance, asking all those present to stand as
Councilperson Ron Ellis gave the invocation. Council President Waiz then asked all
those present to join him in the pledge of allegiance to the flag.
The roll was called and those present w~e; Councilpersons Ron Ellis, Les
Merkley, Denny Frantz, Rob Waiz, Barbara Wilson, and Ron Grooms.
Absent: Councilperson Vicki Conlin.
Councilperson Merkley made the motion to approve the agenda as presented,
second by Conncilperson Ellis, passing on a vote of 5-0. Council President Waiz did not
vote.
Council President Waiz presented the minutes of the meeting of September 15,
2003 for consideration by the Council. Councilperson Wilson made the motion to
approve the minutes as presented, second by Councilperson Merkley, passing on a vote
of 5-0. Council President Waiz did not vote.
Clerk Treasurer Wilder presented the claim list for consideration by the Council.
Councilperson Grooms made the motion to approve the claims as presented, second by
Councilperson Merkley, passing on a vote of 5-0. Council President Waiz did not vote.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
There was no public comment.
AGENDA ITEMS:
Mr. Perry McCall, Attorney for the Town of Sellersburg, appeared before the
Council to request consent to attempt to annex areas M and P as indicated on a map that
was displayed. Attorney McCall explained each area. Sellersburg sewer and water

currently serve these areas. Councilperson Grooms asked how much population would
be included. Attorney McCall answered there are no more than 200 individuals currently
living in the areas. There are Plans for a subdivision. Councilperson Ellis asked if this is
in the area of the new interstate interchange, which would be a viable business area.
Attorney McCall answered yes. There is no way for Jeffersonville to be contiguous.
Councilperson Grooms asked about the timetable. Attorney McCall said this is not on a
fast fast track. Councilperson Grooms made the motion that the City of Jeffersonville
give permission to the Town of Sellersburg to proceed with annexation of areas M and P
as presented on the map, second by Councilperson Merkley. Councilperson Ellis would
like some form of written document. Attorney McCall said state statute (36-4-3-9) only
requires consent. The motion to give permission to proceed with annexation passed on a
vote of 5-0. Council President Waiz did not vote.
COUNCIL AND MAYOR COMMENTS:
Councilperson Wilson noted there is one more concert in the park this Friday.
She appreciates all for coming.
Council President Waiz noted the Boy Scout Troop in attendance tonight that is
working on citizenship. Councilperson Wilson noted these Boy Scouts have been
coming to the concerts in the park selling concessions. They have done an excellent job
and she appreciations what they have done. Council President Waiz appreciates all who
came out tonight.
As there was no further business to come before the Council, the meeting was
adjourned at 8:00 P.M.
