AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING A MORATORIUM ON TIlE
DEMOLITION OF BUILDINGS IN JEFPERSONVILLE
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville
has passed a ltistoric District Ordinance {84-OR-34) , and is
on record as supporting historic preservation; and
WIIEREAS, the Board of Historic Review has been nominated
by the Mayor and approved by the Common Counci ]; and
WHEREAS, a t,: ime period wil] el apse unti ] the pre'] i mi nary
sur'w~y of historic buildings is comp] eted, presented to the
Common Counci ] and approved by the Common CouncJ].
NOW, THEREPORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Counci
the City of JeffersonviIle, Indiana:
]. There shal] be a moratorium on the demo] i tion of
any building within the City of Jeffersonvi.]]e, unless
a condemnation proceeding has begun concerning the
building, a permit for demolition has previously
been issued or the structure is a clear arid present
danger to the public safety or health.
This Ordinance shall remain in effect until the Common

Council is presented with the preliminary survey
of Historic Buildings or until December 20, 1984,
whichever comes first.

($1,000.00) .
This Ordinance shal 1 be in full force and effect from
