An Ordinance directing the Department of Redevelop-
ment of the City of Jeffersonville to advise the
Common Council as to the Development and the Admini-
stration of All Local, State and Federally Funded
Economic Development, Housing and Redevelopment Pro-
grams for the City of Jeffersonville.
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the City of Jeffersonville
to promote the economic development of the City and to improve the quality
of life of its citizens, and,
WHEREAS, it is desirable to maximize the efforts of the City to qualify
for and benefit from all such appropriate governmental programs that have
as their stated goals economic development and/or community improvement,
and,
WHEREAS, it is also desirable that the City make these aforesaid efforts
as efficiently and as professionally as possible so as to be able to parti-
cipate to the fullest degree in the kind of commercial and industrial develop-
ment and neighborhood redevelopment programs that will make major contribu-
tions to the strengthening of the economic and social life of Jeffersonville
and of all of its people;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL that it hereby
directs the Department of Redevelopment of the City of Jeffersonville to
seek prior approval of the Common Council concerning the development and
administration of all local, state and/or federally funded economic develop-
ment programs and housing and community redevelopment programs in and for
the City, including, but not limited to, the Community Development Block
Grant Programs and the Industrial Development Grant Fund Programs available
through the Indiana Department of Commerce and the Urban Development Action
Grant Programs and all housing programs available through the U. S. Depart-
ment of Housing and Urban Development.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL that
it shall be the duty and responsibility of the Cdmmon Council to receive
and handle ali grant funds, and to see to the proper fiscal management
thereof.
AND NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL that
the Department of Redevelopment, is more particularly directed in respect
to these aforesaid development, redevelopment and housing programs to com-
plete subject to prior Common Council approval, all necessary applications,
reviews and reports, and with Common Council approval, prepare or have pre-
pared the necessary plans and studies, develop and implement all program
activities, and perform all duties and meet all specific requirements of
these programs or of any other local, state and/or federally funded programs
in which the City of Jeffersonville might participate in the future so as
to facilitate the achievement of its aforesaid goals of economic development
and community improvement.
AND NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL that
it hereby charges the Department of Redevelopment with the responsibility
of advising the Common Council as to the promulgation of sound and resource-
ful development and redevelopment programs which will maintain the City
in a favorabl~ position in respect to any and all such new programs which
might be developed in the future by the local, state and federal funding
agencies.
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its
passage and approval.
