HomeMy WebLinkAbout1985-OR-68~ ORDINANCE NO. 85-OR-68 ORDINANCE CONCERNING TAXICABS WITHIN THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE It appearing that certain provisions of the Jeffersonville City Code concerning taxicabs are in need of revision and the Council now feeling it is in the best interest of the citizens of jeffersonvllle to make such revisions. NOW, THEREFORE, BE 1T ORDAINED as follows: Any person applying for the issuance or the renewal of a taxicab license shall pay to the Clerk-Treasurer a fee of Seventy Dollars ($70.00) as a license to be for the first taxicab that he is licensing within the City; and for each subsequent taxicab each person shall pay an additional fee of Fifteen Dollars ($15.00) per vehicle. The Board of Public Works and Safety II. III. IV. shall consider each application or renewal and shall inform the Clerk-Treasurer of its decision to issue or deny each issuance or renewal. The number of taxicab licenses to be issued by the Board of Public Works and Safety shall be based upon the public convenience and the necessity for such taxicabs. The maximum number of such licenses shall be thirty (30) of which no more than fifteen (15) shall be issued to any one person. A taxicab license shall be issued only if the vehicle meets all State and Federal requirements for vehicle safety and emission control. The owner of each taxicab shall obtain an insurance policy from an insurance company doing business in the State which shall provide for automobile liability insurance coverage in the amount which is required by the State of Indiana for such commercial taxicab operators. The rates to be charged by taxicabs for service to passengers shall be based upon a mileage/time rate. The rate shall be One and .25/100 Dollars De ($1.25) for or portion each additional thereafter. If the taxicab driver is going to charge a "back charge" he shall so inform the "rider" prior to the beginning of the trip. No owner or operate of any taxicab shall permit any valid person who does not have an appropriate and chauffeur's license to operate a taxi. Every person who applies for the issuance or renewal of a taxicab driver's license shall pay the sum of Five Dollars ($5.00) to the Clerk-Treasurer's office. Every person applying for taxicab driver's license shall furnish one (1) photograph of himself of a size to be specified by the jeffersonville Police Department and shall complete any required application form which shall be specified by the Police Department. charge Twenty Cents ($.20) for customer-caused delay. An additional Thirty Cents ($.30) shall be charged for each additional passenger per trip. Rates for travel outside the City limits of jeffersonville shall be as set forth in Paragraphs XI. XII · XIII. In addition, the individual applying shall pay a Five Dollar ($5.00) fee to the Jeffersonville Police Department. This fee shall be in addition to the Five Dollar ($5.00) application fee and shall be placed in the General Fund. Any portion of the Jeffersonville City Code or any Ordinance enacted following the adoption of the Jeffersonville City Code in conflict with this Ordinance is hereby repealed. If any portion of this Ordinance is determined to be invalid by a Court of competent jurisdiction, valid parts which are severable from the invalid shall remain in effect. Should any part of ordinance be declared invalid in one or more of its applications, any other applications which are severable shall remain in effect.
