HomeMy WebLinkAbout1985-OR-60 WHEREAS, the streets of the City of jeffersonville are suffering damage from commercial vehicles, which vehicles' gross weight is in excess of the weight which the streets were designed to bear; and WHEREAS, the sewers of the City of jeffersonville are suffering damage as a result of the use of the roads and streets under which they lie by trucks or other commercial vehicles; and WHEREAS, the residences and businesses along said streets are suffering damage as a result of the vibrations caused by the aforementioned trucks or other commercial vehicles. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of the City of jeffersonville as follows: t. No trucks or other commercial vehicles having a gross weight in excess of eight (8) tons (16,000 lbs.) shall be operated by any corporation, partnership, person or group of persons at any time, except as herein provided, on the streets, lanes, roads, pikes or portions thereof as specified in Schedule A attached hereto. This restriction does not apply to local public passenger bus operations or school buses. 2. Exception: Vehicles traveling on such streets, lanes, roads, pikes or portions thereof, for the purpose of making a delivery or picking up a load in the immediate vicinity, may travel along those streets, lanes, roads, pikes or portions thereof, but only for the minimum distance necessary for those purposes. 3. The City of jeffersonville hereby designates Tenth Street/State Highway 62 as the proper and accepted route for all trucks or other commercial vehicles traveling through the City of jeffersonville. o This its approval, signature and Passed this + The Mayor of Jeffersonville, by and through the Board of Public Works and Safety, is hereby instructed to designate by appropriate signs the limitation as to the weight loads allowed on all public streets and to establish such signs as are necessary to divert trucks or other commercial vehicles having a gross weight in excess of eight (8) tons to Tenth Street/State Highway 62. The operator of any vehicle who is convicted of a violation of the provisions of this Ordinance, upon conviction, shall be fined not less than One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) nor more than Twenty-Five Hundred Dollars ($2,500) for each violation thereof.
