AN ORDINANCE ESTABLISHING FEES FOR OUT.OF-STATE
VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER INSPECTION
WHEREAS, Public Law 120, Sectio5 1, enacted by the 1983
Legislature and effective September lc 1983, now permits peace
officers of the State of Indiana to charge a fee for inspecting
vehicles which must be inspected prior to registration in the
State of Indiana; and
WHEREAS, The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville
deems i% desirable to impose a fee for inspecting the aforementioned
motor vehicles, which fee is not a greater charge for the service
than that reasonably related to the cost of the service provided.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CO~ON COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA, that from and hereafter the
date of passage and adoption of this Ordinance, the Police Depart-
ment of the City of Jeffersonville is authorized, and directed to
collect a fee of Three Dollars ($3.00) for the inspection process
of each motor vehicle which must be inspected prior to regis-
tration in the State of Indiana.
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that a receipt shall be issued by
the Police Department for such inspection fee collected; and that
the revenues so collected shall be periodically, and not less than
weekly, delivered to the Clerk-Treasurer of the City of Jefferson-
ville, and such revenues received from the inspections authorized
by this Ordinance shall be deposited into the Education, Equipment,
and Etc., Fund of the Police Department of the City of Jefferson-
ville. This fund to be a Non-Reverting Fund.
BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED that the Clerk-Treasurer is hereby
directed to establish such a Police Education, Equipment and Etc.
Fund pursuant to the laws of the State of Indiana.
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage and approval.
