RESOLUTION CONCERNING INDIANA UNIVERSITY
1987 NCAA BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS
WHEREAS, the Indiana University Men's Basketball Team
performed in an admirable manner during the entire 1986-87 Basketball
Season; and
WHEREAS, the Indiana University Men's Basketball Team
overcame all obstacles and accomplished the cherished goals of
winning the Big Ten and NCAA Division I Basketball Championships;
and
WHEREAS, the Head Basketball Coach, Bob Knight,
demonstrated outstanding expertise, discretion, and leadership in
guiding the aforementioned Basketball Team to its ultimate victory;
and
WHEREAS, the aforementioned Basketball Team is a great
source of pride to the entire State of Indiana, and to the
Southern Indiana area in particular; and
WHEREAS, the Southern Indiana area includes the City of
Jeffersonville, located in Indiana; and
WHEREAS, a large number of Indiana University graduates
and supporters reside in Jeffersonville and continue to take
pride in and support Indiana University; and
WHEREAS, said supporters of Indiana University have had
to endure disparaging comments concerning the relative abilities
and accomplishments of the basketball teams of universities located
in a close proximity to the south of the Southern Indiana area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by unanimous proclamation
of the the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville as follows:
1. The Indiana University Basketball Team is to be highly
commended for its outstanding season and for winning
the cherished NCAA Championship.

Coach Bob Knight is to be highly commended for the
outstanding season, the Championship, and for continuing
to maintain a program which espouses the truest spirit
of competition, upholds the ideal of the student-athlete,
and maintains the ethical standards of Indiana University.
That the City of Jeffersonville, and its residents,
shall continue to fully support Indiana University in
its future endeavors on and off the basketball court,
and shall remain fans in good standing.
Adopted by the Common Council of the City of
Indiana, this 6th day of April, 1987.
