ORDINANCE REGARDING COLLECTION OF FEES FOR INSPECTION OF
MOTOR VEHICLES BY THE JEFFERSONVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, the Indiana Legislature has adopted Public Law
29, House Enrolled Act 1243, which amends I.C. 9-1-2-1 to allow
police departments in the State of Indiana to collect fees for
inspection of motor vehicles commencing July t, 1988; and
WHEREAS, suc~ inspections require a significant allocation
of manpower and expense on behalf of

jeffersonville to adopt such fee for inspections of vehicles in
the City of jeffersonville.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED as follows:
1. That commencing July 1, 1988, the jeffersonville
Police Department is hereby authorized to collect an inspection
fee not to exceed Five Dollars ($5.00) for each motor vehicle
it inspects upon the application form prepared by the Bureau of
Motor Vehicles of the State of Indiana.
2. That the ex~ct amount of said fee to be charged shall
be regulated by the jeffersonville Board of Public Works and
Safety subject to the limitations set forth hereinabove.
3. The revenue collected from the inspection fees shall
be deposited at least once each week with the office of the
Clerk-Treasurer of the City of jeffersonville special account
hereby established and entitled "vehicle InsPection Fund".
4. That it is further understood that monies deposited
into this Vehicle Inspection Fund shall be appropriated by the
Common Council for other law enforcement purposes.
5. That the jeffersonville Police Department officer
making such inspection shall further issue a receipt for such
on General Form No. 352 for each fee collected hereunder.
This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
upon its timely passage, promulgation and approval by the
Mayor.
