RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE ERECTION OF TRAFFIC
SIGNALS AT THE TRAIN CROSSING ON HIGHWAY 62
IN JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
WHEREAS,
jeffersonville
public health,
City of jeffersonville, Indiana,
the City or traveling its streets and public
the Common Council of the City of
is desirous of promoting and protecting the
welfare and safety of the citizens of the
and of all persons visiting
thoroughfares;
and
WHEREAS, it has been brought to the attention of the
Common Council of the City of jeffersonville that a
dangerous and hazardous condition exists between Locust
Street and Walnut Street on State Highway 62 within the City
of jeffersonville regarding the railroad crossing at that
intersection; and
WHEREAS, there have been numerous serious accidents
within the last few years while such trains are traversing
the road at such crossing, including occasions when the
train was stopped and traffic was being flagged; and
WHEREAS, railroad crossing presents an unreasonably
hazardous and dangerous situation for vehicular traffic on
State Highway 62 which cannot be alleviated by manual safety
precautions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE that it hereby lends its
strongest endorsement for all steps which can be taken on
the State and Federal level to provide automatic signals at
this crossing to be utilized when trains are traversing the
road.
