HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-R-34 REGARDING PROCUREMENT PREFERENCES FOR RECYCLED MATERIALS
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the city of jeffersonville,
Indiana, is aware that the Indiana Legislature adopted during
the 1990 legislative session Indiana Code 5-17-6 which
generally pro,ides that a price preference of ten percent (10%)
for supplies that meet certain designated characteristics shall
be given to qualified recycled materials; and,
WHEREAS, the common Council of the City of jeffersonville,
Indiana, urges all ,,Purchasing Agents", ,,Departments", and
municipal entities affiliated with the City of jeffersonville,
to fully comply with the provisions of the statute on purchases
of materials under I.C. 36-1-9; and
WHEREAS, the Common Council further recognizes that much
discretionary Spending is undertaken within various budgets for
smaller purchases; and
WHEREAS, the Common Council further feels that similar
procurement preferences for these smaller purchases would be
advisable as the Common Council of the City of jeffersonville
is fully in agreement with the legislative intent of
I.C. 5-17-6, in promoting the use of recycled materials.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of
the City of jeffersonville that it hereby recommends to all
Purchasing Agents, Departments, and affiliated municipal
entities of the City of jeffersonville that they attempt to
procure price quotes on discretionary purchases from vendors
dealing in recycled materials where applicable, particularly
for paper products. In the event that recycled products are
available within ~__ percentage of the price which similar
non-recyclable products are available, the Common Council would
urge the Purchasing Agent in that instance to use the recycled
materials so as to promote the public interest in preserving
and improving the human environment.
