HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-R-06RESOLUTION NO. 90-R-~ RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING AN ANNUAL SUCCESSION PROHIBITION FOR COMMON COUNCIL MEMBERS TO SERVE AS PRESIDENT PRO TEMPORE WHEREAS, I.C. 36-4-6-8(b) provides that legislative body of a third class city shall choose from its members a president to preside whenever the executive (Mayor) is pro tempore absent; and, WHEREAS, it is believed by the majority of the members of the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana, that the citizens of Jeffersonville will best be served by prohibiting the annual succession of any one member serving as president pro tempore of the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville that it shall elect a president pro tempore from its members as required by Indiana law, but that no member so elected shall be allowed to succeed himself in the following year. Furthermore, once a council member has held the position as president pro tempore of the Council and has relinquished that title for a period of twelve (12) consecutive months, that member shall thereafter be entitled to reelection as president pro tempore by a majority of the Common Council.
