SANITARY SEWER BOARD
MINUTES OF JUNE 15, 2023
The Sanitary Sewer Board of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana met in regular
session on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at 3:00 P.M in Jeffersonville City Hall Mayor's
Conference Room and via Zoom. Mayor Moore called the meeting to order at 3:00 P.M.
Board Members present are Mike Moore, Bill Saegesser and Dale Orem. Also present
are Utility Director Len Ashack, Assistant Utility Director Jay Thompson, Board Attorney
Mike Gillenwater, Utility Billing Office Manager Elisha Gibson, Controller Heather Metcalf,
Josh Darby representing Jacobi, Toombs, and Lanz, Lenin Kasthuri and Justin Ramirez
representing Lochmueller Group, Jackie Isaacs representing Habitat For Humanity, Jorge
Lanz, and Secretary Barbara Hollis.
Board Member Orem made the motion to approve the agenda as presented,
second by Board Member Saegesser, passing on a vote of 3-0.
The minutes of the June 1, 2023 meeting were presented for approval. Board
Member Saegesser made the motion to approve the minutes as presented, second by
Board Member Orem, passing on a vote of 3-0.
CONTROLLER'S REPORT
Controller Metcalf presented the claim list dated June 15, 2023 in the amount of
$1,711 ,884.18 Board Member Saegesser, made the motion to approve the claim list as
presented, second by Board Member Orem, passing on a vote of 3-0.
Manager Gibson presented the Adjustment Certificate dated June 9, 2023 in the
amount of$-33,423.95 Sewage, $-324.24 Drainage and $358.72 Refund. Board Member
Saegesser, commenting it looked like a lot of old accounts were cleaned out, made the
motion to approve the Certificate as presented, second by Board Member Orem, passing
on a vote of 3-0. Board Member Orem commented on one $4,000 home water leak.
OLD BUSINESS - No Old Business This Meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
Director Ashack explained the need for the approval of a construction permit for
the new Jeffersonville Elementary School on Charlestown Pike. There is no need for a
capacity permit as there is an existing school on the property that will be torn down.
Board Member Saegesser made the motion to approve the construction permit, second
by Board Member Orem, passing on a vote of 3-0.

There being no further business to come before the Board, Board Member Orem made
the motion to djourn at 3:18 P.M., second by Board Member Saegesser, passing on a
vote of 3-0. he ne t regular meeting is scheduled for July 6, 2023.

Jackie Isaacs, on behalf of Habitat For Humanity appeared before the Board to
request financial assistance regarding capacity fees for the project on Riddle Street in
Jeffersonville. She explained there are currently 2 houses under construction with plans
for more. Mayor Moore said Habitat For Humanity is a wonderful cause and is happy this
is being done. The land for the project was donated by the City of Jeffersonville. He
further explained there are a whole lot of good causes in Jeffersonville and if the door is
opened for one there would be many further requests. Board Member Saegesser agrees
with Mayor Moore and noted the need to be consistent in treating all customers the same.
He totally admires what Habitat For Humanity does. Following discussion. Board
Member Saegesser made the motion to deny the request, second by Board Member
Orem, passing on a vote of 3-0. All said this is not personal.
ENGINEERING REPORTS - No Reports This Meeting
DEPARTMENT REPORT
Director Ashack reviewed the May 2023 Loadings for both plants explaining both
are well in compliance. The diverting of the flow from the DTWWTP to Cane Run has
been completed satisfactorily. There will be another test in July. He also reviewed the
CSO Volumes reports saying there was one overflow at the Tenth Street Lift Station.
There was a meeting with Project Slugger on Tuesday that went well. The monthly report
is on CD. Director Ashack said the READI June Progress Report is complete and
submitted to River Hills.
ATTORNEY COMMENTS - No Comments This Meeting.
BOARD MEMBER COMMENTS
Board Member Saegesser asked about the KARST situation. Justin Ramirez said
the changing of one structure is being considered.
Mayor Moore asked about the County's pledge of $7M for the Sazerac sewer
project as he has heard it may not happen. He would request the funds be diverted to
the Jeffersonville sewer project if the Sazerac project does fall through.
