A RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING AN ENVIRONMENTAL
CHARTER FOR THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE
The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville recognizes the obligation it
shares with others to conduct its business in an environmentally responsible manner.
Thus, the following policies are established to minimize the impact of operations t)n the
air, land and water and to encourage suppliers and citizens also to practice sound
environmental decisions.
ENVIRONMENTAL PRINCIPLES
(1) Incorporate environmental considerations into the planning process of the
City of Jeffersonville.
(2) Consider and compare the environmental consequences of choosing certain
suppliers and contractors when purchasing supplies or services.
(3) Maintain and enhance internal procedures for handling environmental
emergencies and meeting other environmental requirements.
(4) Periodically conduct formal reviews of activities to assure compliance with
environmental regulations and internal procedures.
(5) Educate all employees on the importance of their conduct in protecting the
environment, as well as their own health and safety.
(6) Make environmental responsibility and innovation a guideline for measuring
employee performance.
(7) Make available to the community all relevant information on environmental
problems, waste products and activities that may affect health and safety.
(8) Seek and implement cost-effective technologies and practices to minimize
emissions, and reduce or safely dispose of waste products in our operations.
(9) Pursue methods to prevent pollution and conserve raw materials, including
recycling and promoting the efficient use of products through ail cost-effective means.
(10) Promote sound environmental practices within our City, including the sharing
of experience with others and the continued support of research and development in
environmental improvement.
(11) Develop and mmntmn open and constmcuve relattonsh~ps w~th envtrome tal
groups, regulatory agencies, public officials, employees and concerned citizens.
