ORDINANCE INITIATING SPECIAL APPROPRIATION FOR THE
BENEFIT OF JEFFERS~NVILLE MAIN STREET,
INC.
WHEREAS, the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville
is aware that Main Street Programs have successfully
revitalized downtown~ areas similar to Jeffersonville's on a
national basis; and,
WHEREAS, the Common Council is further aware that
Jeffersonville Main Street, Inc. has within the past few months
obtained its tax exempt status and is now prepared to meet the
challenge of the future in revitalizing Spring Street and other
commercial areas in downtown Jeffersonville; and,
WHEREAS, upon the advice of Jeffersonville Main Street,
Inc., and after careful deliberation, the Common Council agrees
that the primary impetus for the success of Jeffersonville Main
Street, Inc. will be provid~ by the securing of adequate
funding to allow the hiring of a full-time project manager to
promote and coordinate the program, and the Council further
believes that it may assist in such efforts by providing seed
money which will allow Jeffersonville Main Street, Inc. to
begin its efforts at the earliest possible date.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council of
the City of Jeffersonville that it hereby pledges the
additional sum of $20,000.00 per year for calendar years 1991,
1992, and 1993, to Jeffersonville Main Street, Inc., which
funds may be used for its administrative and operational
expenses, specifically including, but not limited to, the
hiring of a full-time project manager to promote and coordinate
the Main Street Program in Jeffersonville. The Clerk-Treasurer
of the City of Jeffersonville is hereby directed to begin a
special appropriation for the funds necessary to meet the 1991
$20,000.00 appropriation and the Common Council will hereafter

The Common Council

the downtown area, and in other matters which may be vital to
the revitalization of downtown Jeffersonville.
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its
timely passage, promulgation and approval by the Mayor.
