AGENDA President Jan Paddocks called the meeting to order with roll call.Members present, including Paddocks, were Johnna Anderson,Ed Siewert,Maggie Moore,Melanie Yates and Lisa Green.Member Jill Schimpff was absent. MINUTES Paddocks asked members to review the minutes from the May 13,2019 meeting. After a brief review,Melanie Yates made a motion to accept the minutes.Lisa Green seconded the motion and the minutes for the May 13,2019 meeting were unanimously approved. CERTIFICATES OF APPROPRIATENESS: • Tommy Miller, from Vidionix, 146 Spring Street, was on hand with a C of A for exterior renovations to a commercial building. All of the renovations, including new paint, restored windows, new garage bay,and fence removal, had already been complete at the time of Miller's application for C of A.Miller told HPC members that he had also done some aesthetic work on the front of the building where various spots of masonry was eroded.Miller said he used wooden ceiling joists from inside to cover up that area and"add something"to the front of the building. He said he would still be adding new lighting, and a logo/signage would be painted on the front of the building. "We'd also love to have some planters to block off the parking lot,"Miller said."We're trying to find some planters-we haven't found anything as large as we want just yet." "It sure looks better than it did,"Lisa Green said. Laura Renwick told HPC members that the changes were"consistent with design guidelines and it is an improvement" over what was there previously. Lisa Green made a motion to accept the request for C of A"for all the changes that have been made or are in the process:' Melanie Yates seconded the motion. The C of A for 146 Spring Street was unanimously approved. •Match Cigar Bar,207 Spring Street, submitted an application for C of A for new signage.Although no one was present at the meeting to provide additional information or comment, the commission still considered the application. Advisor Laura Renwick said she had talked with someone from the business and that he had already purchased the sign he was seeking the C of A for.Renwick advised commission members that he planned to mount the sign to the roof and it would extend out over the sidewalk like a projecting sign. However, members cited the large size of the sign as well as numerous existing signs on the property-including window signage and a flush mounted sign-and asked Renwick if she thought he would be willing to move the new sign to the(adjoining) 201 Spring Street building instead-and maybe putting it on the corner. Member Melanie Yates proposed the idea of the sign being placed on the Market Street side of the building instead of the Spring Street side of the building. "Would that eliminate some of the concern?"she asked. Renwick suggested the sign may work better if it was flush mounted instead of projecting. "I would say no to this sign, but I think he should look at putting it on the other building as a possibility instead,"member Lisa Green said. Renwick agreed, saying"It would make more sense to put it there" Member Melanie Yates made a motion to deny the C of A for 207 Spring Street as presented. "However, should we want to come back with a proposal for the Market Street Side of the building,we would be willing to assess that;she said. Lisa Green seconded the motion. The •f A for Match Cigar Bar,207 Spr' g Street, was unanimously denied.
