A Resolution of the Jeffersonville City Council In Support the "VFM
Safety and Inspiration Center"
WHEREAS, it is the goal of the Jeffersonville City Council to support worthwhile projects
that promote the City, the people, the culture and history of Jeffersonville, Southern Indiana
and Greater Louisville;
WHEREAS, Southern Indiana has awarded the Vintage Fire Museum and Safety
Education Center, Inc. a grant of One Hundred and Twenty Five Thousand Dollars ($125,000)
for the project entitled "VFM Learning and Inspiration Center," and
WHEREAS, this project includes the purchase and restoration of that building more
commonly known as "The Bales Building" and an adjacent lot at 104 E. 7th Street in
Jeffersonville, Indiana, and
WHEREAS, the majority of this building and lot has been unused for many years;
WHEREAS, the Vintage Fire Museum has an accepted purchase bid on this property and
has taken the initial steps for environmental clean-up, as well as for the restoration design and
beautification, and
WHEREAS, the building and property would be used to supplement the existing museum
of vintage firefighting equipment with a state-of-the-art fire safety education center and an
inspiration area with a memorial honoring this region's firefighters who have sacrificed their
lives fighting fires as well as those who gave up their lives in 9/11, and
WHEREAS, Southern Indiana Tourism requires that this grant receive a supporting
resolution including bonding authorization from a local municipality, and
Whereas, Southern Indiana Tourism has requested that Vintage Fire Museum and
Safety Education Center, Inc. receive a supporting resolution from a local municipaliy by August
8, 2019, a n d
WHEREAS, support of this project has no bearing on the successful Southern Indiana
grant that the City of Jeffersonville is receiving for the "Depot project" on Michigan Avenue,
and

WHEREAS, the support of this grant including the bonding authorization involves no
expense at all to the supporting municipality or its population, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of Jeffersonville, Indiana supports the "VFM
Safety and Inspiration Center" project of the Vintage Fire Museum and Safety Education
Center, Inc. and offer to authorize the bonding if necessary.
Passed and adopted by the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville, Clark
Coun Indiana on this S day of August, 2019.
