Monday, May 20th, 2019
The Jeffersonville Parks Authority Met in a Session in the Mayor's Conference Room, City Hall,
Jeffersonville, IN on, May 20th,- 2019. Members Present: Josh Kornberg, Mark Munzer, Larry
Jordan, Matt Owen, Ralph Scales and Scot Haire (Arrived at the end of the meeting). Also Present:
Parks Director Paul Northam and Les Merkley City Attorney.
Approval of Agenda
Member Owen made a MOTION to approve the agenda for the May 20th, 2019 Parks Authority
meeting, the motion was seconded by Member Munzer. The motion PASSED on a vote of5-0.
Approval of Minutes
Member Owen made a MOTION to approve the minutes from April 22nd, 2019 Parks Authority
Meeting, the motion was seconded by Member Jordan. The motion PASSED on a vote of 5-0.
Member Owen made a MOTION to approve the minutes from the May 9th, 2019, the motion
was seconded by Member Jordan. The motion PASSED on a vote of 5-0.
Old Business-
Merkley- Resolution—GCCS MOU- You have already approved these agreements for Connie
Selmer and Shirley Hall Park but the agreement indicted that you approved them pursuant to a
resolution passed by this board.
Member Owen made a MOTION to approve Resolution R-2-2019 GCCS MOU, the motion was
seconded by Member Munzer. The motion PASSED on a vote of 5-0.
Northam- Bob Hedge Surface- We have three quotes for Bob Hedge Park for the new surfacing
by Bluegrass Recreation for $107,538.67, Recreation Unlimited for$109180.00, and Dura Safe
for$108,328.67. Recreation Unlimited included disposal so we had to back that out but like
that they would be able to remove the old surfacing during the project. So we would like to go
with Recreation Unlimited and then I will talk to them later about the removal of the existing
playground.
Member Owen stated that this came before the council at the last meeting and the council
approved the use of the money up to $120,000.00 to fix the surfacing at Bob Hedge as it has
been causing issues for local residents.
Member Owen made a MOTION to approve Recreation Unlimited for$109,180.00, the motion
was seconded by Member Munzer. The motion PASSED on a vote of 5-0.
New Business-
Simpson— Riverstage Contracts-These are the contracts for the Riverstage season, there are a
couple that I will need to bring to the next meeting that are for the end of the season but this is
what we have so far.
Back 2 Mac, Derby City Jukebox, Wulfe Bros Variety, Eighty Sixt, From Paris, Eight Inch Elvis,
Lefty &the Lunatics, Soul Kitchen, Thunderstruck, The Wilson Bros, Hot Wired, Juice Box
Heroes, Sound Machine, The Devonshires and Joshua Sky.
Member Jordan made a MOTION to approve the following Riverstage contracts Back 2 Mac,
Derby City Jukebox, Wulfe Bros Variety, Eighty Sixt, From Paris, Eight Inch Elvis, Lefty &the
Lunatics, Soul Kitchen, Thunderstruck, The Wilson Bros, Hot Wired, Juice Box Heroes, Sound
Machine, The Devonshires and Joshua Sky, the motion was seconded by Member Munzer. The
motion PASSED on a vote of 5-0.
Director's Report-
Sara Simpson- We are getting ready to kick off the Riverstage season so I hope that you can
come out. The mailers are coming out next week and will let everyone know what we have
planned for the summer.
Donnie Poole- Passed out the Dude Solution report for the last month and answered questions.
Duffy and the wharf have been cleaned up and are looking good.
Olivia Mann-The pool is getting ready to open, the health inspector is coming tomorrow and
then we will open this weekend. We have Bingo in the Park this last week and we had about 45
people come which was a good turn out with parking and the colder weather that day.
Paul Northam-The Fieldhouse is renovation is going strong, the Spring Hill Envision Center is
underway with their remodel and we are currently painting and doing the flooring. Abbey Road
is this weekend so we are doing a lot of work to get everything ready for that. Chapel Lake, the
Lake is done and the pad is done so they are going to be starting on the shelter this coming
week. Today we ordered the playground equipment and so we are a couple weeks away from
that being ready. Green space has been busy mowing since everything is growing with all the
rain. They also just completed a project at the Overlook and then they are headed to the
Envision Center. Youth Football they are prepping for the youth season that starts June 15t and
getting ready for the rental season at WAC.
Reports and Comments-
Parks Authority Attorney Comments- None
Parks Authority Comments- Member Owen asked what the plan was for Colston Park and Paul
stated that it was going to be a Memorial but beyond that so far there isn't a plan for that park
yet. Member Owen stated the person that had asked him was concerned about a parking lot.
Paul stated that had been discussed but no decision had been made.
Public Comments- None
Member Kornberg made a motion to ADJOURN at 5:37 pm, PASSING on a vote of 6-0.
