HomeMy WebLinkAboutCP APRIL 2, 2019 City Pride Meeting Minutes from April 2, 2019 Attendees: PeggyHagertyDuffy,Barbara Wilson, Dan Griffin, Jim McCoskey, Lynn McCoskey, Phyllis Nelson, Richard Eklund, Nancy Eklund,Andy Crouch, Judith Van Gilder The meeting was called to order by Peggy Duffy at 9:34 a.l i. in the Mayor's Conference Room. Snapdragon Planting: Snapdragon planting will take place on April 9, 2019, beginning at 4:00 p.m. Peggy Duffy reported the snapdragons are fine and ready to go. They are in full bloom. Good weather is expected, and the City's Drainage Crew will be helping with the Court Avenue medians. Peggy Duffy will have soil available for any of the flower pots that are currently in need of dirt. This is to be added to the flower pots when the snapdragons are added to the pansies which were planted in March. The pansies may have to be removed and replanted with the snapdragons to facilitate the addition of soil. Peggy stated that all snapdragons would be cut back in mid-May and all pansies removed. Glossbrenner Garden: Spring clean-up at the garden will begin at 2:00 p.m. on April 9, 2019. Peggy Duffy advised the decorative crystals may not have arrived by this date. Jim McCoskey requested a large quantity of leaf bags and rakes be available as well as ladders. Judith Van Gilder volunteered to get several chunks of leaf bags from the City of Jeffersonville Street Department. She will bring these to the garden along with several cardboard inserts which are used to hold the bags open when filling them with leaves and debris. Judith will also notify Stephanie Miller at the City's Street Department that the filled bags for disposal will be placed on the sidewalk outside of the garden for pickup. Dan Griffin will bring a leaf blower and Suggested Others do likewise. The Christmas lights which were on the trellis have been taken down but are still in the garden. They are on the ground leaning against the trellis. Peggy Duffy will get in touch with Tony Decker regarding this matter. Peggy Duffy will check on the espalier plan for the magnolia on the wall in the garden. The gentleman who was to do the pruning and training, Richard Leep of Walnut Ridge, has retired. Walnut Ridge has another employee by the name of Ricardo who may be able to help make this happen. Jim McCoskey related that the two cigarette receptacles outside the garden are in need of some attention. He volunteered to get two new galvanized buckets with clean sand which go inside the outdoor ashtrays. The old buckets are rusted, and the sand in them has reached the point where it is unsightly. Until then, Jim and Lynn McCoskey will continue to maintain this area. Peggy Duffy stated emphatically that when the sign is removed, it is to be saved and not discarded. 14th Street Welcome Sign: Phyllis Nelson advised that she and her husband Mike have experienced some issues with "homeless" persons in this area when they have been picking up litter. Warder Park: Tim McCoy, City Green Space manager, contacted Peggy Duffy to do a walk-thru this week of Warder Park to clarify City Pride's involvement. Peggy mentioned weeding as one thing to be discussed. Dan Griffin: Dan advised he would be resuming his duties greeting visitors at the Big Four Walking Bridge beginning May 1, 2019. He also had two questions: one regarding the use of a canopy at the Thunder over Louisville event and one seeking to know how many bags were in a chunk of bags. The canopy question was unable to be addressed, but Judith Van Gilder was able to inform Dan that a chunk of bags consisted of ten bags. Court Avenue Medians; Andy Crouch, City Engineer, confirmed all banners had been changed from the "Winter"to the "Spring" offering. Also, replacement banner arms were to arrive this week, as several have broken. Hanging baskets will not be appearing for at least another month when the weather is a little kinder. Mr. Crouch will check on the status of the damaged median in light of the upcoming events in downtown Jeffersonville. Parking lot at 7th Street and Wall Street: Regarding Mr. Ned Pfau's involvement in the upgrade of this location,Andy Crouch, City Engineer, related that both he and the Mayor of Jeffersonville had expressed appreciation to Mr. Pfau for his thoughtfulness. No additional action is to be taken. Minutes: Peggy Duffy asked for approval of the minutes of March 19, 2019. Judith Van Gilder made a motion for approval which was seconded by Phyllis Nelson. The motion was passed without objection. Phyllis Nelson made a motion to adjourn at 10:07 a.m. The motion was seconded by Barbara Wilson.
