The meeting was called to order by Peggy Duffy at 9:40 a.m. in the Mayor's Conference Room. Storage Shed: Peggy stated that our storage shed is scheduled to be moved by the Parks Department as soon as the weather permits. Thunder Parking: Peggy Duffy reported that she spoke with Mayor Mike Moore, and City Pride will be sharing the old Foundry lots on Market Street with another group or groups for Thunder Parking on April 13. Each group will have their own space for parking, will provide their own personnel, and will handle their own money. We will be charging$20 per parking space this year, in order to be consistent with what the other group is charging. The charge for RV parking will be based on how many parking spaces are required. The hours we will be parking vehicles will be similar to what we have done in the past. Banner Arms on Court Ave.: Andy Crouch, City Engineer, reported on the broken banner arms on the light poles on Court Ave. Replacements have been requested from the company, but there seems to be some disagreement between the company's sales department and engineering department as to how this should be handled.Andy said that he would order some replacements, in the interim,to be paid for out of his budget. If the company decides to send some replacement banner arms in the future, they can be put aside in the event we lose some more. Spring Planting: In preparation for the spring planting of the medians, Peggy stated that she wants the ornamental grasses removed from the Court Ave. medians.Andy Crouch volunteered the city's drainage crew to do this. The grasses in the medians will be replaced later in a more uniform fashion than last year. Peggy wishes to continue using ornamental grasses for the winter effect. We will not be putting grasses in the sidewalk pots this year but will be using cannas again. The grasses tend to get too big and crowd out the other plants in the pots. After some discussion, it was decided that the spring planting of pansies will take place in both the Court Ave. medians and the sidewalk pots on either Tuesday, March 12, at 3:30 p.m. or Saturday, March 16, starting at 10:00 a.m. Richard Eklund asked if we thought we were getting our money's worth out of planting the pansies, since they are only in the ground for about two months. Peggy Duffy said it was worth it to get the early color. Richard suggested we might try to elevate the pansies so they would be more visible, but Peggy stated that not planting them down in the ground would allow the roots to freeze, and the plants would die. She also stated the Walnut Ridge is growing more snapdragons for us, but we will have to plant them Iater than the pansies, as they are not as cold tolerant. Peggy advised that the irrigation in Glossbrenner Garden is to be repaired the second week of March. The Court Ave. and Glossbrenner Garden irrigation is scheduled to be reactivated the second week of April. Glossbrenner Garden: Peggy Duffy stated that she had ordered the caladium bulbs for Glossbrenner Garden. She ordered 100 white bulbs and 20 of a different color(pink) plus two elephant ears. She reported that the vendor was out of the red bulbs we usually plant. She stated that she thought the caladiums should be planted as a mass planting in one area this year, as opposed to being placed throughout the garden. The 20 bulbs of a different color she wants used as accent groups. No action was taken by the group regarding this. Peggy stated that we need some options for what to plant around the base of the tree in the middle of the garden. One option that was mentioned was hibiscus plants, but nothing was finalized. It was also mentioned that the garden needs some mulch added. Tony Decker stated that he has used pine needle mulch in the past with good results. Someone also noted that the pavers were dirty, and pressure washing them was one option suggested. Peggy Duffy said the magnolia tree at the back of the garden needs pruned and shaped. No action was taken on this project. Tony Decker stated he would be taking the Christmas lights down from the trellis this week. Bicycle Planters: The bicycle planter in front of Sandy Knott's home on Main St. needs to be repainted. It is currently pink and needs to be changed to red. That was what she requested when it was put there, because it is in the Cherry Hill neighborhood. The McCoskeys may be able to take care of that. Judy Behringer also mentioned that many of the bikes are starting to look a little shabby and may need some touch-up or repainting. The McCoskeys reminded everyone that if you do decide to paint a bike,be sure to use some type of dropcloth to protect the sidewalk or bike pad from the paint. 12th Street Planting: Peggy Duffy mentioned that the sumac we had planted at 12th and Spring some years back had been removed by the Green Team. They are in the process of reworking that bed and are replacing the sumac with something else, because they stated that the two Knockout roses there were diseased. Peggy stated that City Pride has not been involved with 12th St. other than some occasional maintenance days, because the sumacs were intended to be maintenance-free. A motion to adjourn was offered by Judy Behringer and seconded by Tony Decker. The next meeting will be in the Mayor' 'onference Roos ay, Mar, h ►th. i 1061 ApproveNitggy Hage i : 'ride Co-Chair Qatlif ae4 Submitted by: Richard F. Eklund
