The purpose of the workshop is to distribute and discuss the information and gather the Council's input on the matter. This is for an 18 hour training program that would leave the employees who participate with a Certificate from Purdue in these leadership areas. The number of classes and length of the days would be decided by the Administration. Council President Zastawny asked if Mr.Takami had spoken with the Administration on this matter, either the Mayor or Human Resources. They have spoken and pointed him in the direction of Councilperson Gill. Councilperson Maples asked if these 18 hours could be applied towards a degree. They cannot they will just be for Certification purposes. Councilperson Maples said they did something similar to this at the County Jail and it was well received by the employees. Councilperson Owen said he didn't realize this was a training for internal employees, he thought the focus would be City wide to help with the workforce. Mr.Takami stated they would like to venture to that type of program but have focused on these types of company partnerships to begin with.
