CERTIFICATES OF APPROPRIATENESS: •Commission members were presented with an application submitted by HBS Insurance for signage at 113 W.Chestnut Street. No one was present to present the application on behalf of the company. Advisor Laura Renwick, displaying photos of the building's exterior, explained to Commission members the details of the applica- tion as presented and the specific request from HBS. "What they have now is this banner, the sign on the front of the building and these words in the windows...They are proposing a free standing sign down there by the bushes." Paddocks asked Renwick if HBS planned to remove existing signage if the freestanding sign was approved. "I would think we should strongly suggest that it should;'Renwick said. Renwick said the application also did not include an image of the exact signage the company was proposing, but said HBS reps were planning to mimic the arch of the windows on the building with an arching sign. Member Lisa Green suggested that when HBS decided on a final design for the sign that it stay below window height and incorpo- rate the wording currently displayed in the window signage so those could be removed. Given that HBS'application didn't include any specifics or details,Commission members said they weren't comfortable approving the application. Paddocks suggested the Commission allow Renwick to contact HBS and offer the Commission's recommendations and guidance in regards to the signage. "I think we should let Laura handle this;Paddocks said."She can guide them and give her approval once she's satisfied with their design:' Member Lisa Green was in agreement and made a motion to allow Renwick to approve the application for 113 W.Chestnut Street once the particulars met her standards.Member Melanie Yates seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved. With no other business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned. (//,1*, cks,President,Jeffersonville Historic Preservation Commission DATE minutes 8-18.indd 1 9/6/18 11:52 AM
