CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE
FIRE MERIT COMMISSION
The Jeffersonville Fire Merit Commission held a Regular Meeting on Thursday, May 3,
2018 in the first floor Conference Room, 500 Quartermaster Court, Jeffersonville, IN.

Jeff Frey—Secretary
Bernie Horvath—Board Member
Thomas Spalding—Board Member
Nathan Masingo —Attorney
Connie Conen—Recording Secretary

CALL TO ORDER:
Mr. Monohan called the meeting to order at 6:05PM. All Commissioners were Present.
Ms. Conen was absent.
BUSINESS:
- Mr. Frey made a motion to approve the minutes of the April 5, 2018 meeting; Mr.
Horvath seconded. The motion was passed unanimously.
- There was a discussion regarding applicants who were over 36 and being hired
into the Department. Mr. Masingo was going to look into lateral transfers
between departments; previous military service of 20 years will also count.
- FF Applications—300 have been given out and only 100 have been returned.
- J. Hurt has been working on an online application and will be showing it to City
Council.
- Chief Hedrick spoke about River Ridge and trying to get a conversation started.
AT this time River Ridge hasn't officially said that they would not assist with a
new Fire House—They are having a meeting regarding this next month. Mr. Frey
brought up the question of Lisa Gill saying that the Fire Department hasn't asked
for new FF in the 2018 budget. The Chief agreed. However, the Council had
previously said that the Fire Department could hire 6 each year for the next two
years.
- B. Bowyer and B. Hopf are asking to participate in the upcoming promotional
tests even though they will be 2 weeks short in time.
Adjournment:
- Mr. Horvath made a motion to adjourn; Mr. Spalding seconded. The meeting was
adjourned.
