HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-18-2002' ~ ' .November ~o~°, 2002 1 COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA NOVEMBER 18, 2002 The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana met in regular session in the Multi-Purpose Meeting Room in the City-County Building, Jeffersonville, Indiana at 7:30 P.M. on the 18th day of November 2002. Council President Denny Frantz, with Clerk Treasurer Peggy Wilder at the desk, called the meeting to order. Also present was Deputy Clerk Barbara Hollis. Council President Frantz welcomed all in attendance, asking all those present to stand as Councilperson Ron Ellis gave the invocation~ Council President Frantz then asked all those present to join him in the pledge of allegiance to the flag. The roll was called and those present were; Councilpersons Les Merkley, Ron Ellis, Denny Frantz, Rob Waiz, Barbara Wilson, and Ron Grooms. Absent: Councilperson Vicki Conlin. Councilperson Waiz made the motion to approve the agenda as presented, seconded by Councilperson Grooms, passing on a vote of 5-0. Council President Frantz did not vote. Council President Frantz presented the minutes of the meeting of October 29, 2002 for consideration by the Council. Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the October 29, 2002 minutes as presented, seconded by Councilperson Waiz, passing unanimously. Clerk Treasurer Wilder presented the claim list for consideration by the Council explaining a claim requesting a donation of $1,000 for a Jeffersonville High School Choral Group. Councilperson Merkley made the motion to add the claim presented by Clerk Treasurer Wilder to the list, second by Councilperson Wilson, passing on a vote of 4-1. Councilperson Grooms voted no; Council President Frantz did not vote. Councilperson Merkley made the motion to approve the claims as amended, seconded by Councilperson Waiz, passing on a vote of 4-1. Councilperson Grooms voted no; Council President Frantz did not vote. PUBLIC COMMENT: There was no public comment. · ~ November 18, 2002 2 AGENDA ITEMS: Fire Department Secretary Betty Froedge appeared before the Council to explain the need for passage of Ordinance No. 2002-OR-37, An Ordinance Transferring Certain Funds Within Same Department (Fire Department). Councilperson Merkley made the motion to pass Ordinance No. 2002-OR-37 on the first reading, second by Councilperson Waiz, passing on a vote of 4-0-1. Councilperson Ellis abstained and Council President Frantz did not vote. Councilperson Merkley made the motion to pass Resolution No. 2002-R-35, A Resolution Of Additional Appropriation (General Fund-Fire Department), second by Councilperson Waiz, passing on a vote of 4-0-1. Councilperson Ellis abstained and Council President Frantz did not vote. Councilperson Waiz explained he had talked With Ms. Susan Robertson of the building Commissioner's Office regarding Ordinance No. 2002-OR-34, An Ordinance Granting Petition To Vacate Public Way. Councilperson Waiz made the motion to pass Ordinance No. 2002-OR- 34 on the second and third readings, passing on a vote of 5-0. Council President Frantz did not vote. Clerk Treasurer Wilder explained the need for passage of Ordinance No. 2002-OR-36, An Ordinance Authorizing The City Of Jeffersonville Health Insurance Fund To Borrow Funds From The City Of Jeffersonville Sewage Funds. Councilperson Grooms made the motion to pass Ordinance No. 2002-OR-36 on the third reading, second by Councilperson Wilson, passing on a vote of 4-1. Councilperson Merkley voted against passage. Council President Frantz did not vote. Resolution No. 2002-R-36, A Resolution Declaring A Certain Area Known As The "Gateway Area" An Economic Revitalization Area was presented for consideration. Councilperson Grooms made the motion to pass Resolution No. 2002-R-36, seconded by Councilperson Merkley, passing on a vote of 5-0. Council President Frantz did not vote. COUNCIL AND MAYOR COMMENTS: There were no comments. November 18, 2002 As there was no further business to come before the Council, the meeting was adjourned at 7:45 P.M.
