CERTIFICATES OF APPROPRIATENESS: •SUZANNE JULIUS AND JOE LEE,OF 527-531 SPRING STREET,were on hand to request approval for replacing windows on the upper level of the building. Joe Lee told the Commission a lot of the wood is rotten on the sills and frames of the existing windows and they had plans to replace them with vinyl clad windows. He told the Commission when he appeared before the board at the time he pur- chased the building,he advised that he would probably have to come back in 20 years and ask to replace them. "We want to do the exact same style that's there now,Lee said."Just in vinyl clad" Suzanne Julius said there would be one minor adjustment to the window style. "The only difference is at the top(in the rounded, arc),there will be a vinyl piece(like a sash or extra frame instead of one big piece' Renwick asked if it was a possibility to do the window in one piece with the arched top as it is now-instead of adding an extra sash. Joe Lee said they hadn't considered that possibility. "Just doing it as it is now, with the rounded top,is going to cost double ..."Lee said. Member Jill Schimpff asked about the color of the vinyl clad windows. "It would be clay colored ... (tan);'Julius said."We already have clay/tan on the back of the building so it will match' Laura Renwick said she would prefer the replacement windows be the same as the existing windows. "But if the price is going to be so much greater... And the difference in style visually is so minimal... I would be OK with that' Member Jill Schimpff made a motion to approve the C of A for Suzanne Julius and Joe Lee to replace the windows at 527- 31 Spring Street with the allowance of the curved window piece being two separate pieces instead of one like the original window because of the considerable price difference. Member Lisa Green seconded the motion. The C of A for 527-31 Spring Street was unanimously approved. OTHER BUSINESS: •Laura Renwick told the Commission she had talked with the Rose Hill Neighborhood Association earlier in the day and that they were to meet the following day with neighbors get a better idea of how residents there feel about expanding the Historic District to include them. She said she would update Commission members on Rose Hill's decision at the August HPC meeting. •Laura Renwick told the Commission that realtor Lincoln Crum was planning to be at the August meeting to update the Commission on the former Masonic building on Spring Street. "He said they haven't completed the appraisal ... and that Chris Nolan is`intrigued'by the boutique hotel idea and is hav- ing Wayne Estopinal run some numbers. He had mentioned there was interest from some other investors, but he didn't mention that in his last email,so I don't know if that's still on the table.'
