HomeMy WebLinkAboutAPRIL 11,2017 JEFFERSONVILLE POLICE MERIT COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING APRIL 11, 2017 The Jeffersonville Police Merit Commission meeting was held on April 11, 2017 at 5:00 P.M. in the City Council Chambers, First Floor, 500 Quartermaster Court,Jeffersonville, Indiana. President Robert Campbell called the meeting to order with the following in attendance: President Robert Campbell, Bonnie Deppert,James Reagan, Scott Aldridge, Attorney Robert Bottorff and Patty Rush. Absent was Jeremy Snelling. Invocation was given by Scott Aldridge APPROVAL OF MINUTES: President Campbell presented the minutes from March 14, 2017 meeting, asking if there were any corrections or additions. Mr. Reagan made motion to approve the minutes as presented and seconded by Mr.Aldridge. Voted 4-0 OLD BUSINESS: None NEW BUSINESS: Chief Kenny Kavanaugh addressed the Commission that the list for experienced police officers will be completed and turned the following Tuesday and wanting to know the availability for the Commission to conduct the interviews. There are only 6 candidates to be interviewed. He is requesting to get them completed as soon as possible to get them to Indianapolis because of the time line. A date to begin interviews was chosen for April 19th to begin at 4:30 P.M. and start interviews at 4:45 P.M. and will be conducted at the Jeffersonville Police Department. An alternate date of April 24th at 5:00 P.M. was set in case it was needed. An Executive Session was scheduled for April 17th at 5:00 P.M. at the Police Department for review of questions for the interview. Chief Kavanaugh requested to the Commission to open up the experienced officer process for another 30 days to receive applications. We have received other officers interested to apply and only have 6 candidates at this time and that way we can proceed at this time. Mr. Aldridge made motion to approve the opening of another list for another 30 day for experienced police officers. Motion was seconded by Mr. Reagan. Voted 4-0 Attorney Bottorff discussed the appointment of the Commission and Bonnie Deppert's term was completed as of December 31, 2017. She was appointed by the Membership of the Department. The Membership has to go through the process to have you reappointed. She will continue until a decision has been made by the Membership of the Department. President Campbell requested that Attorney Bottorff confer with Attorney Les Merkley regarding this matter. PUBLIC COMMENTS: Corporal Daniel Harbin asked if a FOP member to be attending interviews and the Executive Session. They will appoint someone to be in attendance and they can participate in the interviews. Chief Kavanaugh will contact President Jason Jackson regarding someone to attend the interviews. He will request that they will be on the Executive Board Member to attend. ADJOURNMENT: Mr. Reagan made a motion to adjourn at 6:00 P.M. and seconded by Mr. Aldridge.
