COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
JULY 13, 1989
The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana met
in regular session in the Mayor's Conference Room, in the City-County
Building in Jeffersonvzlt , Indiana, on the 13th day of Jul'y 1989 at
7:30 o'clock P.M.
The meeting was called
Richard Spencer Jr. at the desk.
Mayor Orem asked all
allegiance to the flag.
The roll was called and
Carter, Grooms, Harrod, and Williams.

General discussion regarding the pros and cons of contracting
for garbage collection or to have City employees do it was held. The
easiest way is to continue with B.F.I. until their contract expires and
if it has been decided to get out of the garbage collection business
bids would be let next March, and if it has been decided to stay in the
garbage collection business this will be time enough to gear up.
Council President Harrod suggested a Resolution to pay the B.F.I. claim
with the understanding there may be a mistake in the contract. There
followed discussion of differing legal opinions. Those in attendance
gave their opinions as to the services rendered and the bills owed.
At the conclusion of all discussion, Councilman Carter made

Attorney Filer has met with the attorneys involved with the
Hughes Lease. They ask to have until August 1, 1989 to take official
action. Council President Harrod made the motion to allow the request,
seconded by Councilman Williams and carried unanimously.
Mayor Orem informed the Council he had attended the Riverfront
Coalition meeting and was a guest on the Louisville Forum program that
will be broadcast on the radio.
There being no further business to come before the Council
Councilman Carter made the motion to adjourn at 9:15 o'clock P.M.,
seconded by Councilman Grooms and carried unanimously.
