HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-10-1989SPECIAL SESSION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE~ INDIANA APRIL 1©, 1989 The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville met in special session in the City-County Building in the Mayor's Conference Room, Jeffersonvitle, Indiana on the loth day of April~ 1989. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Dale Orem and C. Richard Spencer Jr., at the desk. Mayor Orem asked all those present to stand and pledge allegiance to the flag. Perkins, The roll was called and those present were Councilmen Harrod, Carter, Waiz, and Grooms. Absent: Councilmen Caldweli and Williams. Councilman Perkins asked for discussion to schedule the July Council meetings. As the first regular meeting ~ould fall on the holiday weekend it was agreed to meet July 5. As this is the month to figure budgets the Saturday meeting will be cancelled. Councilman Perkins said now is the time counsel for help with the Riverfront lease. Indianapolis has been suggested. Other names committee of Councilmen on an attorney. A discussion on the terms of the lease agreement followed with a general feeling being a 85 year lease with 2-ten year options should be negotiated with the Hughes. The percentage of gross receipts to be received by the City was also discussed. At this point the negotiation will be 3 and 1/2% of the gross the first five year, 4 and 1/2% the next five, and 5% the following fifteen. The minimum will be $40~000. Council President Harrod suggested if the project is financially successful to the City it would be nice if a portion of the funds were used to help the underpriviledged. One suggestion would be to air condition Clark Arms. The next meeting to discuss this project will be April 24, 1989 at ?:30 P.M. Those citizens in attendance were thanked for showing up and asked it there were any comments. to hire outside Baker & Daniels in were discussed and a Harrod: Perkins: and Waiz will met to decide PAGE 2 APRIL 1©~ 1989 Mrs. Fredericks stated she has definite concerns regarding the riverfront~ two of these being the traffic and parking. Mayor Orem assured Mrs. Fredericks this will be addressed and a system of moving people will be developed. She is also concerned this will make the river inaccessible to the majority of people. It is believed once the riverfront is developed it will be more accessible then it is now. Mrs. Fredericks asked if the City will have any control over the types of businesses that will be in the proposed pavilion. Mayor Orem agrees this is a good point and it will be looked into.
