NEW BUSINESS:
Chief Kenny Kavanaugh addressed the Commission and handout for the Application and
Appointment of Experienced Officers to the Police Department. The purpose is to provide us an
opportunity for us to have another viable resource regarding the hiring process in the event of filling
vacancies for the department so we may streamline the process with the City of Jeffersonville growing.
This is another added way to have officers, due to the City growing into a medium Police Department
due to the growth and annexation that has occurred in the past years. Chief Kavanaugh explained the
Application, Qualifications, and Applicant Screening along with review of application, Agility Test,
Background Investigation and Personal Interviews. He discussed the Experience Applicant Eligibility
List, Pension Board Review, Delayed Appointments, Probationary Employment, Reduction In Force and

the Merit Commission. Chief Kavanaugh has reviewed other Departments regarding the comparison of
the Cities.
