HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-12-1992COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA MAY 1R, 1998 The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville met in special session in the Mayor's ConferenCe Room in the City-County Building, Jeffersonville, Indiana, at 18:00 o'clock noon on the 18th day of May~ 1998. The roll was called and those present were Councilpersons Bill Wolpert~ Andrew Williams III, Peggy Knight Wilder, L. Marie Clapp, and Steven R. Stemler. Absent: Councilpersons Donna M. Frantz, and Robert L. Potter. Attorney Gillenwater introduced Mr. designated (B Group), moving into America Place. The Council has America Place as an Economic Reyitalization Area. Mr. Bass answered questions regarding the salarie~. Mr. Bass stated he has been conservative in his Statement of Benefits estimates and anticipates more, hoping to double. Mr. Bass explained his business and the type of employees he will be !hiring. Council President Williams explained this is a benefit to lure business and there is a monitoring procedure in place which the C~uncil will be looking into. Councilperson Clapp will feel more comfortable if these Statements are reviewed. Council President Williams fee~s B Group has followed the proper procedures. Councilperson Stemlerldoes not feel any tax will be sacrificed. Mr. Bass will try to keep his employees local. Following all discussion Councilperson Wotpert made the motion to approve the B Group Statement of Benefits~ seconded by Councilperson Wilder and carried unanimously, i Attorney Gillenwater reviewed t~e Street situation with the loth Pump Station, making comments on the dewatering problem and varying soil conditions. It is believed,Hall Contracting has had a cost overrun of $330~000 before any profit is figured in. There is a recommendation to settle for $250,000. Ifi this is not settled it may cost up to $A50,000. This case could be won or lost in court and there are arguments on both sides~ however government does not usually PAGE 2 MAY 12, 1992 fair well in court. The Governor and 40 to 45 staff mlembers will be staying in private homes. Mayor Parker will be meeti?g! with Ms. Kathy Presser, IDEM Commissioner and he will be pleading his case for additional grant funds for the Wastewater Treatment Pliant. There being no further business ito come before the Council~ Councilperson Wolpert moved to adjourn at 12:55 o'clock P.M. seconded by Councilperson Stemler and unanimously carried.
