OF JEFFERSONVILLE~ INDIANA
AUGUST 5, 1993
The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville met to
continue the meeting of August 2~ 1993 in the Mayor's Conference Rooms
City-County Building, Jeffersonville~ Indiana, at 6:30 P.M. on the 5th
day of August~ 1993.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Raymond J. Parker
Jr.~ with Deputy Clerk Alice Davis at the desk. Mayor Parker welcomed
all in attendance, asking all those present to stand as Councilperson
Steven Stemler gave the invocation~ He then asked all those present
to join him in the pledge of allegiance to the flag.
The roll was called and those present were Councilpersons
Bill Wolpert, Andrew Williams III~ Peggy Knight Wilder, Barbara
Wilson, Robert L. Potter~ and Steven R. Stemler.
Absent: Councilperson Donna Frantz
Mayor Parker- said that we are meeting to get the tax rate
and turned the meeting over to Council President Potter.
Council President Robert Potter said that he wants to bring
everyone up to date to where we are and where we go from here and
remind the Council of a couple of dates. Our final date that we can
advertise for the tax rate is August 13~ 1993. We need to get this to
the City Clerk-Treasurer two days prior

comfortable with the 5 year committment for the Police cars. There was
further discussion about the take home care.
Councilperson Donna Frantz arrived at the meeting at 6:50 pm.
Council President Potter made the motion to support the take
home cars program~ seconded by Councilperson Wolpert. Mayor Parker
asked for a roll call vote.
Ayes: Councilpersons Wolpert, Potter, Stemler, Frantz~
Wilson~ Wilder.
Nays: Williams.
Councilperson Frantz made a recommendation that we have
someone check to see if we can eliminate some of the new vehicles by
using some of the newer used Police vehicles. Council President
Potter suggested that we make the final decision on the cars at the
August 83, 1993 meeting. Council President Potter said that the
Council voted to keep the take home cars~ they didn't vote for
replacement of all the cars~ now we need to vote on how many to
purchase and leave the $96,000 in the budget. Councilperson Frantz
questioned the average gallons per day for the Police Vehicles. Mike
Wathen said that it is very difficult to put a gallon limit per car
per shift. The old cars are not getting the milage they got when they
were new, now they are getting about 5 miles per gallon.
Councilperson Donna Frantz asked if the Fire Department
budget had been discussed, she questioned the line item ~479 asking
them to lower it 'from the $11,000 to $107000 for a smaller car.
Councilperson Frantz made the motion to cut line ~479 from $11,000 to
$10~000~ seconded by Councilperson Wilder. Mike Wathen said that the
Tempo is not a big enough car to hold the Fire equipment~ he suggests
a Taurus. Councilperson Frantz asked if the new car will go the the
Fire Chief or to the Arson Investigator.

Mayor Parker talked about the two person committee to assist
the City and advise the Council on what vendor to choose. Jim Keith
said that he suggests the Chamber of Commerce take on that task. Greg
Fitzloff of the Chamber of Commerce agreed to to come up with a
committee. Council President Potter suggested hiring a lawyer from
another State who is experienced with gaming. There was further
discussion on this with Mr. Jimmy Johns.
Councilperson Bill Wolpert said that he is in favor of the
downtown area for the Riverboat Gambling Boat. Council President
Potter and Councilperson Williams agreed with Councilperson Wolpert.
Administrative Assistant Donna Metzger Baird reported that
the Steamboat Days Festival Committee would like for the flat bed
truck be repaired for the parade. Mr. Harold Lakeman said that in the
budget on page 8 of the print out for construction labor for Warder
Park Building there is
