HomeMy WebLinkAbout07-06-1993COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA JULY 6, 1993 The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville met in regular session in Council Chambers in the City-County Building, Jeffersonville, Indiana, at 9:30 P.M. on the 6th day of July, 1993. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Jr., with Clerk and Treasurer C. Richard Spencer Mayor Parker welcomed all in attendance, asking all stand as Councilperson Steven Stemler asked all those present to join him in flag. Raymond J. Council President Potter asked if Police Chief Rick Elliott was satisfied with the 25 mile per hour limit. Chief Elliott replied he was satisfied. Council President Potter made the motion to suspend the rules for Ordinance No. 93-OR-4B, seconded by Councilperson Williams and carried unanimously· Council President Potter then made the motion to pass Ordinance No. 93-OR-4B Councilpersen Wolpert, passing Ayes: Councilpersons Frantz, Wilder and Wilson. Nays: None. Potter made the motion to Councilperson Williams and a Statement of Benefits on Mrs. Mariana Torres explained to the Council this will be a new commercial building on Spring Street that will employ 45 people. Councilperson Williams stated this will be an asset to the area. Councilperson Stemler will abstain on the vote as his company has been the successful bidder to do the plumbing work. At the conclusion of all discussion, Councilperson Williams made the motion to accept the Statement of Benefits in the name of Jose C. Torres and Mariana Torres, seconded by Councilperson Wilson~ passing on a vote of 6-0-1, with Councilperson Stemler casting the vote of abstention. The Council was asked to approve a Statement of Benefits for Environmental Equipment Service Corporation. Mr. Francis N. Fulcher Jr explained this will result in 90 ~obs with the anticipation of growing to over 100 lobs in the next 'five years. Following all questions by the Council, Council President Potter made the motion to PAGE 3 JULY 6, 1993 accept the Statement of Corporation, seconded unanimously. Councilperson Wilder asked Commission. Mayor Parker nominates Republican and Ms. Veronica Contin, qualifications of both nominations. Mr. White is concerned for the population numbers in each Council District. Counci lperson Wilde~-'s District population outnumbers those of others and he asks if there are plans to redraw the districts. Councilperson Wilder said this has been worked on: however- no conclusions have been made. Mr. John Mockabee explained in detail the extreme mosquito problem in his neighborhood. He called the Health Department and was told mosquitos don~t carry disease. There is a need to have something done. The undergrowth is too thick and nobody knows who's responsible. He has been told the Park Department does not have the money to take care of this. He requests the Council start building funds for this area as well as other areas of town. Councilperson Frantz promised the Council will look into the matter. Councilperson Wolpert offered to walk the area with Mr. Mockabee. There being no further business to come before the Council, Council President Potter moved to adjourn at 9:10 o'clock P.M. seconded by Councilperson Stemler and unanimously carried.
