ProMedia The Council met in a workshop to discuss the ProMedia contract and how much they are willing to spend yearly for their services. Council President Sellers stated the total amount for the year is about $54,000, but the council can decide to cut specific services from the contract. Councilperson Gill spoke up about concerns for the Facebook page and why it costs $1,500 a month to run it. Councilperson Samuel stated he believes that is based on 18 hours per month dedicated to social media. Councilperson Julius agreed with the concern over the amount for the social media section of the contract and stated he supports the website hosting. Councilperson Glover stated that ProMedia does put time into going to all the events and taking pictures. Councilperson Owen stated that having a contract company run a Facebook page keeps it more of a third party versus a communications employee who works for the Mayor. Councilperson Zastawny stated that he liked the communications aspect of the city better with an employee based around the fact that they are always in the building. Councilperson Samuel agreed with Councilperson Zastawny. Councilperson Glover stated that the situation "boils" down to whether the council wants an employee or a contracted company. Councilperson Owen challenged that that person would be working for the Mayor whereas a company like ProMedia is a third party. Councilperson Owen stated he didn't feel like he could make a decision about an employee without a job description or details of the job and qualifications and the pay. Councilperson Zastawny stressed that the person would have to be qualified properly. Councilperson Glover suggested just cutting out the VNR from the ProMedia contract to lower the yearly amount to $32,000. Councilperson Samuel made a motion to move back to having a full time Communication Director with Councilperson Julius seconding, PASSING on a vote of 4-3.
