COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA
November 1st, 2013
The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana met in special session in Room 101, 500
Quartermaster Court, Jeffersonville, Indiana at 2:30 P.M., on Friday, November 1st, 2013.
The roll call and those present were: Councilperson Smith, Councilperson Payne, Councilperson Gill,
Councilperson Julius, Councilperson Zastawny, Councilperson Owen, Councilperson Samuel, and Council
President Sellers. Absent: Councilperson Glover.
1.) Scott Lewis- Certificate of Override of Mayor's Veto of Ordinance 2013 -OR -40: Mr. Lewis presented
a certificate of override of the Mayor's veto explaining to the Council that the veto was specifically a
line item veto pertaining to the Line item 204022332 in Parks. Mr. Lewis stated that if the override
passes the budget that was approved by the council at the last meeting will be what is sent to the
DGLF. If the veto stands, that particular line item will revert back to the 2013 budget. Council
President Sellers stated that there is a workshop on Monday with Promedia at 5:00 P.M.
Councilperson Zastawny made a motion to OVERRIDE the Mayor's line item veto with Councilperson
Julius seconding. Councilperson Owen suggested leaving the veto and allowing it to revert back only
so as to avoid additional appropriations later. Council President Sellers stated after some
conversation with Mr. Merkley that they may need to appropriate another $6,000-$8,000 anyways.
Councilperson Zastawny stated he would rather wait and just appropriate it all at the same time
after talking to Pro media on Monday. Councilperson Gill stated she would like to see a contract
with an amount before she approves to appropriating money.
