HomeMy WebLinkAbout2-15-12 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA February 15th, 2012 Mayor Moore called the meeting to order at 9:33 a.m. and on the call of roll members present were Public Works Coordinator Rick Lovan and Councilperson Lisa Gill. Also present was: Fire Chief Eric Hendrick, Information Technology Director Matt Dyer, Parks Superintendent Paul Northam, Building Commissioner Russ Segraves, WWTP Director Len Ashack, Street Commissioner David Hosea, Controller Monica Harmon, Human Resources Director Kim Calabro, Vehicle Maintenance Director Bobby Vissing, Sewer Office Manager Rick Stevens, Animal Shelter Director Sarah Green, Assistant Police Chief Glenn Jackson, Assistant City Engineer Bill Dixon, Corporation Counsel Tom Lowe, City Attorney Les Merkley, and Deputy Clerk Erica Burress. Public Works Coordinator Rick Lovan made a motion to approve the minutes from February 8th, 2012 with Councilperson Lisa Gill seconding the motion and passing on a vote of 3 -0. David Hosea- Watering Plants for City Pride Street Commissioner David Hosea stated that after talking to Mr. Decker they agreed to keep watering the plants downtown and at Youngstown Shopping Center and City Pride would take control of everything else. 2.) David Hosea- Paving Bids Street Commissioner David Hosea commented regarding the Paving Bids that were put in at last weeks Board of Public Works meeting that he would like to accept all bids with anticipation of prices dropping in the spring. Mr. Hosea stated that when the prices drop in a few months he would call each of the contractors and get new prices then to decide which company to use for Paving. Rick Lovan made a motion to approve all bids with reservations to separate the bids when lower prices become available in a few months. Councilperson Lisa Gill seconded and the motion passed unanimously. New Business 1.) Debbie Smith- Naming Streets at America's Place Debbie Smith from America's Place came before the board with a request to name the roads in the business complex. She said that they have plans to repave and dedicate the streets this summer and would like to name them at the same time. She also stated to the board that businesses within the complex have agreed that it would be easier for them to have their own addresses rather than just the address of America Place. Street Commissioner David Hosea stated that if he got the names and places of each street he would have them put into GPS. A question arose about the street names that they presented to the board with one street in particular being named Resource Way and whether or not there is already a Resource way in Jeffersonville. Building Commissioner Russ Segraves commented that 911 Dispatch would double check the street names and if there are doubles when placing them into the system. City Attorney Les Merkley proposed that the board take the request under advisement due to certain steps that need to be taken to follow State Statute. Rick Lovan stated that the street name will be looked into and brought up under Old Business at next week's Board of Public Works meeting. 2.) Kelly Reed- Great Steamboat Race (May 2 and Franklin Commons Kelly Reed came before the board with a request from the Franklin Commons Neighborhood Association to set up on the Jeff Overlook during the Great Steamboat Race to sell Hot Dogs and Hamburgers as they have the last couple years. They are requesting permission to do that again this year for the May 2 2012 Steamboat Race. Councilperson Lisa Gill made a motion to ir approve Franklin Commons to set up a vending tent at the Great Steamboat Race with Public Works Coordinator Rick Lovan seconding and the motion passing unanimously. 3.) Rick Lovan- Closing Street for Geo Woodstock May 10 2012 Public Works Coordinator Rick Lovan brought before the board a motion that was carried with the last administration regarding the closing of the block/cul -de -sac by the Southern Indiana Welcome building and the McCauley Nichols building on May 10 2012 for the Geo Woodstock scavenger hunt. Mr. Lovan stated that tents will be set up and departments needing to be involved have been contacted as well as the McCauley Nichols building approving the set up. Mayor Moore asked if there needed to be a motion to approve and Mr. Lovan responded that it was already approved with the prior administration but wanted to bring it up for information only to the new administration.
