HomeMy WebLinkAbout11-29-12 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA November 29 2012 Mayor Moore called the meeting to order at 9:33 A.M. and on the call of roll were Councilperson Lisa Gill and Public Works Coordinator Rick Lovan. Also present was: Parks Superintendent Paul Northam, City Engineer Andy Crouch, WWTP Director Len Ashack, Planning and Zoning Director Shane Corbin, Police Chief Chris Grimm, Controller Monica Harmon, Safety Director Mike Ogg, Street Commissioner David Hosea, I.T. Director Matt Dyer, Storm Coordinator Deb Ashack, Fire Chief Eric Hedrick, Building Commissioner Russ Segraves, H.R. Director Kim Calabro, Corporation Counsel Tom Lowe, H. R. Director Kim Calabro, City Attorney Les Merkley, and Deputy Clerk Erica Burress. Mr. Lovan made a motion to approve the November 21 2012 minutes with Councilperson Gill seconding, passing on a vote of 3 -0. Paul Northam - Snowflakes with film crew: Mr. Northam addressed the issue with taking down the snowflakes for the film crew that was discussed last week and stated it would take the parks department an estimated half of a day and at no cost to the film crew. Mayor Moore stated that in the future he would like to see any type of requests that come in that require man hours that fall on the city and the tax payers to incur at the expense of the requestor. Mayor Moore said he is happy to oblige to the film crew, however the cost of the employees to take down the snowflakes need to fall on the film crew. 2.) Rick Lovan /Sarah Green- Packages for Soldiers: Mr. Lovan stated that Animal Shelter Director Sarah Green is collecting items for packages to send overseas to soldiers who cannot make it home for Christmas. He stated that the items can be dropped off at either the Animal Shelter or to Judith in the Mayor's office. NEW BUSINESS: 1.) Stephanie Redd- MLK Day March: Mrs. Redd came before the board to request police and fire presence for the MLK March on Jan 21 2012. Mrs. Redd stated that there will be a meeting on Dec 17 to determine times and the march will be from City Hall to 1 Trinity Baptist on Spring Street. Mayor Moore asked Mrs. Redd to give the attorneys the information after the meeting. 2.) Len Ashack- Road Closure Utica Pike and Alison Lane: Mr. Ashack asked for road closures for the Utica Pike Sewer Project stating that Utica Pike and Alison Lane intersection would need to be closed from 11/29 to 12/7 and that the closure of Alison lane would be broken down into four sections for closures. Beginning at the intersection, Alison Lane would be shut down in sections with the first section beginning on 12/10 to 12/19, the second section from 12/20 to 12/28, the third section from 12/31 to 1/4 and the fourth section from 1/7 to 1/11. The part of Alison Lane that include these four sections would be from Utica Pike to a little south of Regina Ave. Mr. Ashack stated that there is a detour route in place and that Christiani Excavating has contacted the School Cooperation. Mr. Lowe asked if Mr. Ashack can give the map of the closures to Utica and Yellow EMS. Mayor Moore asked when the Middle Road Sewer project would be complete since it is so close to this closure. Mr. Crouch stated the inspector gave him a date of December 9 Mayor Moore also asked Mr. Crouch about the turn Tight at the intersection of Middle and Alison and Mr. Crouch stated he is having someone look into it due to the weight the pole can hold. Councilperson Gill made a motion to approve the closures, with Mr. Lovan seconding, passing unanimously. 3.) Sara Schultz- Christmas Parade Road Closures: Ms. Schultz asked for the road closure of Riverside Drive from Pearl Street to Locust and Spring Street to Market Street to Riverside Drive for the event staging from 4 -7 P.M. with no parking from 3 -7 P.M. Ms. Schultz also asked for the closure of Court Ave from Spring to Wall, Federal Street from Spring to Wall and Wall Street from 7 to Court from 4 -7 P.M. and no parking after 3 P.M. till 7 P.M. The parade route closures would need to be as followed: • Spring from Riverside to 7 street intersections: o Market Street at Spring Street o Chestnut Street at Spring Street o Maple Street at Spring Street These closures would need to take place from 4:45 to 7:00 P.M. The Parade starts at 5:00 P.M. and is this Saturday December 1 Councilperson Gill made a motion to approve the road closures, with Mr. Lovan seconding. 4.) Mayor Moore announced that the city newsletters done by Promedia are going to the post office today to be mailed to the citizens of Jeffersonville and is very impressed with the work done by Promedia.
