HomeMy WebLinkAbout6-06-2012 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA June 6 , 2012 Mayor Moore called the meeting to order at 9:323 A.M. and on the call of roll were Public Works Coordinator Rick Lovan and Councilperson Bryan Glover sitting in for Councilperson Lisa Gill Also present was Animal Shelter Director Sarah Green, Human Resources Director Kim Calabro Fire Chief Eric Hedrick, Parks Superintendent Paul Northam, Information Technology Director Matt Dyer, Building Commissioner Russ Segraves, City Engineer Andy Crouch, WWTP Director Len Ashack, Vehicle Maintenance Director Bubby Vissing, Police Chief Chris Grimm, Safety Director Michael Ogg, Sewer Office Manager Rick Stephenson, Planning and Zoning Director Shane Corbin, Controller Monica Harmon, Redevelopment Director Rob Waiz, Assistant Streets and Sanitation Commission Louie Galligan, City Attorney Les Merkley, Deputy Clerk Erica Burress. Mr. Lovan made the motion to approve the minutes from the May 30th, 2012, seconded by Councilperson Glover, passing on a vote of 3 -0. Councilperson Glover made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Mr. Lovan, passing on a vote of 3 -0. OLD BUSINESS: } 1.) 330 W. Riverside Drive Handicap Sign /Stop Sign on Forest Drive: Mayor Moore asked for an update on the Handicap sign that was requested at 330 W. Riverside Drive and Louie Galligan of the Street Department stated that Mr. Hosea said he saw no problem with it Mr. Louie Galligan also stated that the stop sign on Forest Drive is going to be put up this week. 2.) Street Scaping on Market Street and Court Ave: Mr. Lovan stated that City Pride had been made aware of the street scraping overgrowth blocking driver's view and that they would cut it down. There was some discussion about problems on Riverside drive as well and Mr. Crouch stated that he would take a look at it NEW BUSINESS: 1.) Len Ashack: Street Closures: Mr. Ashack requested board approval of two street closures. The first street closure, he stated, will take place at 8 Street and Mechanic Street to raise four manhole covers to level with the pavement of the road beginning at 7:00 A.M. June 7th to 7:00 A.M. Friday June 8 The second closure is for Main Street between 8 and Frederick Ave beginning at 7:00 A.M. Monday June 11 2012 to 4:00 P.M. Wednesday June 2012 t 13 to replace a sewer. Mr. Lovan made a motion to approve p both street closures with Councilperson Glover seconding, passing on a vote of 3 -0. 2.) Cliff White New Providence Entertainment request to film under bridge: Mr. White came before the board requesting approval to film under the second street bridge for a Christian film called "Jackson's Run." Mr. White also requested a fire truck to be present in order to spray water to look as if it is raining in the film. Chief Hedrick stated that he would have to pay 2 guys overtime to have them take a truck to the site and Mr. White stated that he ik s would reimburse the city of Jeffersonville for that overtime pay. The filming is for June 11 2012 at 9 P.M. Councilperson Glover made a motion to approve contingent on the production company being responsible for the cost of the overtime of the Jeffersonville Fire Department with Mr. Lovan seconding and passing unanimously. 3.) Ronald Bryant- Neighborhood Suggestions: Mr. Bryant made suggestions to the board that he considered effective ways to clean up his neighborhood such as trash cans and paving an alley. Mayor Moore suggested that Mr. Bryant meet with Mr. Lovan to discuss the suggestions and how to get started. 4.) Paul Northam -Jeff Fest: Parks Superintendent Paul Northam gave an update on Jeff Fest stating that the street closures at been taken care of as well as barricades, but they still need some signs up. Chief Grimm stated it is being taken care of and requested a full list of the streets being closed. 5.) Barbara Wilson- 4 of July Parade /Banner: Barbara Wilson came before the board th requesting Police help with the 4 of July Parade as well as a restroom trailer at Warder Park and Picnic tables. Mrs. Wilson also requested the banner to be hung up over Court Ave and Mr. Lovan stated that the banner was previously approved for June 25 2012 to July 7 2012. 6.) Marilyn Czape- Underage Drinking Signs /Banner: Mrs. Czape requested board approval for the placement of three signs on city property at the following locations: Memorial Park, Yp P Y g Middle road and Alison Lane, and a banner on Court Avenue. Mr. Lovan stated that they could put the banner up from July 8 -July 22 Mr. Lovan made a motion to approve all three signs from July the 8 to July 22 2012 with Councilperson Glover seconding, passing unanimously. 7.) Andy Crouch- Update on Alison Brooke Park: City Engineer Andy Crouch updated the board that the City is in the permit phase of the Alison Brooke project. Mayor Moore stated he is still in talks with the property owner about donating the lake behind the park to the City.
