HomeMy WebLinkAbout5-23-2012 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA May 23rd, 2012 Public Works Coordinator Rick Lovan called the meeting to order at 9:35 A.M. while sitting in the place of Mayor Moore who was absent, and on the call of roll was Councilperson Julius sitting in for Councilperson Gill and Leah Farris sitting in the place of Mr. Lovan. Also present was Human Resources Director Kim Calabro, Animal Shelter Director Sarah Green, Fire Chief Eric Hedrick, Parks Superintendent Paul Northam, Information Technology Director Matt Dyer, Building Commissioner Russ Segraves, City Engineer Andy Crouch, Vehicle Maintenance Director Bubby Vissing, Police Chief Chris Grimm, Safety Director Michael Ogg, Sewer Office Manager Rick Stephenson, Planning and Zoning Director Shane Corbin, Controller Monica Harmon, Fire Chief Eric Hendrick, City Attorney Les Merkley, Corporation Counsel Tom Lowe, Deputy Clerk Erica Burress. Ms. Farris made the motion to approve the minutes from the May 16th, 2012, seconded by Councilperson Julius, passing on a vote of 3 -0. Councilperson Julius made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Ms. Farris, passing on a vote of 3 -0. OLD BUSINESS: 1.) Update on Property Demolition in Buttonwood Planning and Zoning Director Shane Corbin stated that he spoke with the bank and they have put this house on their high priority list so he is going to hold off on demolishing for a little bit. Mr. Corbin stated that he has also spoken with the neighbors who were concerned about the health issues regarding the house to let them know of the status of the situation. 2.) Update on benches with advertising Mr. Lovan stated that many of the benches with advertising have been removed. City Attorney Les Merkley stated that he recommended that any benches that are on public property and public right away be removed and that this board approves the removal of any benches on public property. Mr. Merkley also stated that the benches on private property will be given citations under the current sign ordinance. Mr. Merkley stated to the board that he is in the process of drafting a new cleaner ordinance in regards to this issue. Councilperson Julius made a motion to approve the removal of benches with advertising on public property only, with Ms. Farris seconding, passing unanimously. NEW BUSINESS: 1.) Becky Hutchins: Mike and Matts event Mrs. Hutchins came before the board to ask what permits she will need for the grand opening event of Mike and Matts on Holman Lane. Mrs. Hutchins stated that the event will host a tent with food, music, and an inflatable for kids. The event is free to the public and will take place on June 2 2012 from 11 A.M. - 5 P.M. Mrs. Hutchins also stated that she would love to have the Fire Department bring a truck out there to collect for the Crusade and that the Police 1 Department is welcome to attend as well Building Commissioner Russ Segraves stated that she will need a permit and she can go down to the Building Commissioners Office to discuss that after the meeting. 2.) Josh Hillman JTL Contract Mr. Hillman from Jacobi Tooms & Lanz stated that he is requested approval of a contract that was recommended for approval by the City ouncil to do the realigning of the districts Y g g according to the Census update. Corporation Counsel Tom Lowe stated to the board that the 1 realigning of the districts is required by State Law and the Council has decided the funding will come from their special project budget. The contract states that it is not to exceed $30,000. Councilperson Julius made a motion to approve, with Ms. Farris seconding, passing unanimously. 3.) Judith Vangilder: Tubby's on Spring Street Mrs. Vangilder brought concerns to the board about trash dumping behind Tubby's on behalf of a citizen. Building Commissioner Russ Segraves stated that he believes that property is City property. Mr. Lovan stated that they can raise the wire on the fence. Ms. Farris made a motion to adjourn at 9:49 A.M. with Councilper in Julius seconding, passing unanimously. 10; Mayor ATTESTED BY City Clerk
