HomeMy WebLinkAbout3-21-2012 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA March 21, 2012 Mayor Mike Moore called the meeting to order at 9:33 A.M., and on the call of roll member present were Public Works Coordinator Rick Lovan and Councilperson Lisa Gill. Also present was: Animal Shelter Director Sarah Green, Human Resources Director Kim Calabro, Fire Chief Eric Hedrick, Assist. Fire Chief Bruce DeArk, Information Technology Dire or Matt Dyer, Parks Superintendent Paul Northam, Building Commissioner Russ Segraves, City Engineer Andy Crouch, Vehicle Maintenance Director Bobby Vissing, Police Chief Chris Grim Street Commissioner David Hosea, Safety Director Michael Ogg, Controller Monica Harmon, City Attorney Les Merkley, Redevelopment Director Rob Waiz, Planning and Zoning Director Shane Corbin, Redevelopment Grant Writer Delayne Rutherford, Mayor Administrative Assistant Judith VanGilder. Public Works Coordinator Rick Lovan made the motion to approve the minutes from the Ma h 14, 2012, seconded by Councilperson Gill, passing on a vote of 3 -0. Public Works Coordinator Rick Lovan made the motion to approve the payroll, seconded by Councilperson Gill, passing on a vote of 3 -0. OLD BUSINESS: 1.) Shane Corbin- Demolition of 2817 Veterans Parkway Planning and Zoning Coordinator came before the board for approval of demolitio of a house that has had condemnations and violations dating back to March 2008. Homeowner of the property requested that the board allow him 30 days to get th = house under control. Councilperson Gill made a motion to demolish the house wit Coordinator Lovan seconding the motion and passing unanimously. 2.) Jeff Cares Event- Friday March 23 5 P.M.- Midnight at 300 Spring Street Coordinator Lovan made an announcement that IUS has donated a basketball autographed by IU basketball coach Tom Crean for raffle at the Jeff Cares Event. NEW BUSINESS: 1.) Jim Higgins- License to sell Bar -B-Q on city owned property Mr. Higgins came before the board requesting permission to continue sell his food on ' ity owned property. Mr. Higgins asked what he needed to do to continue to be allowed t keep his business there. City Attorney Les Merkley advised the board not to allow selli g on city owned property due to liability. Mayor Moore stated that he had given Mr. Higgins permission to stay on city property until March 9 2012 and because of liabilit . reasons he cannot be on that property anymore, but is willing to hear any suggestions .n a specific area just for vendors to set up. 2.) Sara Schutz -Street Closure for Jeff Cares Sara Schutz requested the board approval for the closure of Chestnut Street from Spri g to Wall street to allow for a tent for the Jeff Cares Even March 23 2012 beginning at 10 A.M. and ending Saturday March 24 2012 at noon. Councilperson Gill made a motion to approve the street closure with Coordinator Lovan seconding and passing unanimously. 3.) Megan Resh /Providence High School- Permission to hang banner on Court Avenue from June 25`"- July 7'" for the July 7 festival. Coordinator Lovan asked for board approval on behalf of Megan Resh from Providence High School to hang a banner on Court Ave for their July 7 festival. Mayor Moore ask if this would interfere with the City's 4'" of July Banner and Sara Schutz stated that the - was room for two banners. 4.) Russ Segraves- grass cutting contract for Riverstage /Riverfront Building Commissioner Russ Segraves came before the board for approval of the contract for grass cutting at the Riverstage / Riverfront. There was some discussion abut which fund this money should be coming out of and Mayor Moore tabled the topic u it that could be settled before approving. 54 Judith Vangilder- Wheelchair accessibility on sidewalk near Cherry Drive and Morningside Drive. Mayor Assistant Judith Vangilder spoke on behalf of individuals who were having difficulty accessing the sidewalk near Cherry Drive and Morningside Drive and asked t e board if there were any plans to fix this and make it more accessible to handicapped. City Engineer Andy Crouch requested an individual name and number so that he coul . work with that person to maybe get him /her a different route in that area.
