BEFORE THE COMMON COUNCIL
FOR THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE
STATE OF INDIANA
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING CERTAIN METHOD OF PAYMENTS
WHEREAS, from time to time the City of Jeffersonville accepts
payment from the public for services permitted by law, and;
WHEREAS, I.C. 36- 1 -8 -11 requires the fiscal body to designate
the methods of payments for services provided by the City of
Jeffersonville, and;
WHEREAS, it is appropriate for the City of Jeffersonville to accept
various forms of payment for services for the convenience of the citizens
of Jeffersonville.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Common Council
of the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana, as follows:
A. Definitions. As used in this ordinance, "credit card" means a:
(1) credit card;
(2) debit card;
(3) charge card; or
(4) stored value card.
B. A payment to the City of Jeffersonville for any purpose may be made
by any of the following financial instruments:
(1) Cash.
(2) Check.
(3) Bank draft.
(4) Money order.
(5) Bank card or credit card.
(6) Electronic funds transfer.
C. If there is a charge to the City of Jeffersonville for the use of
a financial instrument, the City of Jeffersonville may collect a sum equal
to the amount of the charge from the person or the person's agent who
uses the financial instrument.
D. The City of Jeffersonville upon the approval of the Controller
may contract with a bank card or credit card vendor for acceptance of
bank cards or credit cards.
E. The City of Jeffersonville may pay any applicable bank card
or credit card service charge associated with the use of a bank card or
credit card under this ordinance.
This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its
passage and approval.
