HomeMy WebLinkAbout2-01-2012 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA February 1st, 2012 Mayor Moore called the meeting to order at 9:35 a.m. and on the call of roll members present were Engineering Coordinator Rick Lovan and Councilperson Lisa Gill. Also present was: Animal Shelter Director Sarah Green, Fire Chief Eric Hendrick, Information Techno • • y Director Matt Dyer, Parks Superintendent Paul Northam, Building Commissioner Russ Segraves, City Engineer Andy Crouch, WVYTP Director Len Ashack, Street Commissioner David Hosea, Safety Di = • Michael Ogg, Controller Monica Hannon, Human Resources Director Kim Calabro, Police Chief Chris Grimm, Vehicle Maintenance Director Bobby Visaing, Sewer Office Manager Rick Stevens, Planning - d Zoning Director Shane Corbin, Redevelopment Director Rob Waiz, Corporation Counsel Tom Lowe, Attorney Les Merkley, and Deputy Clerk Erica Burress. Engineering Coordinator Rick Lovan made a motion to approve the minutes from January 25th, 2012 Councilperson Lisa Gill seconding the motion and passing on a vote of 3-0. Engineering Coordinator Rick Lovan made a motion to approve the payroll with Councilperson Lisa Gi seconding the motion and passing on a vote of 3 -0. Old Business NONE New Business 1.) Polar Plunge at Deams Lake: Shannon Bline was not in attendance to discuss the Polar Plunge scheduled for February 18", 2012. Mayor Moore asked what types of measures that the street department had to en previously to help with the Polar Plunge. Street Commissioner David Hosea responded the t they had provided generators to the site. 2.) Rick Lovan- On Behalf of Sylvia Worrall and Woehrle Road. Sylvia Worrall called into Rick Lovan's office with concern to Woehrle Road. Rick Lovan stated that the concern was about where to turn onto Woehrle Road and that this has bee the only complaint on this area thus far. Mayor Moore suggested holding off on any action until other complaints are brought forward. 3.) Mayor Moore- National Go Red Day Mayor Moore made the announcement that this Friday February 3 2012 is National Go ' - ed Day for the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women movement. Mayor Moore requested that all employees show their support by wearing red this Friday. It was also announced that City Hall will have red lights reflecting on it every night for the month of February in honor of the movement. Mayor Moore also announced that casual Friday a • g the employees at City Hall will be reinstated beginning February 3 2012. 4.) March 0 Dimes Christal Hice Christal Hice from the March of Dimes foundation made a request to have the tip of the second street bridge closed between 8 am through 11 am on May 12 ", 2012 for the Ma • of Dimes walk. Mrs Hice stated that the city of Louisville has already agreed to the closure o their side due to the re-opening of the Shermon Minton Bridge before the walk. Rick Lova made a motion to approve the closure of the second street bridge contingent on the re- opening of the Shermon Minton Bridge before the walk. Councilperson Lisa Gill seconded the motion with it passing unanimously. 5.) Shamrock run/ Sara Schutz Sara Schutz from the Parks Department spoke on behalf of Fred Geswein in making a request to use Chestnut Street between Locust and Wall streets for the Shamrock Run on March 13 2012. The request was that there is a rolling road block during the time of 5:34 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. to ensure the safety of the participants. Engineering Coordinator R dk Lovan made a motion to approve with Councilperson Lisa Gill seconding the motion and passing unanimously.
