The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville met in Special Session on Monday,
November 14, 2011. Council Vice President Wilson called the meeting to order at 5:35
P.M., and on call of the roll those members present were: Councilperson Connie Sellers,
Barbara Wilson, Wayne Carter, and Nathan Samuel. Also present was Deputy Clerk
Treasurer Tiffany Stiles.
Councilperson Samuel made the motion to approve the agenda, second by Councilperson
Sellers, passing on a vote of 4 -0.
Jay Ellis with Jeffersonville Main Street came before the Council to request additional
funding for holiday advertising this year. Councilperson Samuel would like for the
advertisements to mention all of Jeffersonville and not only Jeff Main St. Mr. Ellis stated
that he had no problem including other areas of Jeffersonville on the advertisements.
Councilperson Samuel made the motion to approve $15,000 additional funding for
Jeffersonville Main Street for advertising to be taken from the Council's Special Projects
budget, seconded by Councilperson Sellers, passing on a vote of 4-0.
Dave Shahroudi with Boice.net came before the Council at the request of Councilperson
Carter to discuss expanding the city's Wi -Fi service. Mr. Shahroudi presented 3 estimates
for different coverage areas. Following discussion Councilperson Carter made the motion
to approve $13,634.39 from Gaming Revenue fund to expand the city's Wi -Fi coverage
to the Warder Park area and at the new temporary ice rink on Spring Street.
Councilperson Wilson seconded the motion, passing on a vote of 4-0. Financial Officer
Harmon asked the Council to go ahead and approve a resolution to advertise for the
funding. Councilperson Carter then made the motion to approve 2011 -R -32, seconded by
Councilperson Sellers passing on a vote 4 -0.
Couneilperson Samuel made the motion to approve the funding match for the
Jeffersonville ice rink. The rink will be located on Spring St and will be open from
Thanksgiving until New Years. The UEZ and the Department of Redevelopment have
also agreed to contribute $33,000 each towards the cost to operate the rink.
Councilperson Carter seconded the motion for the Council's contribution of $33,000 to
be taken from the Special Projects budget, passing on a vote 4-0. Councilperson Samuel
commented that he believes that this will be the only operating ice rink in the area and he
hopes that will help bring people downtown.
Councilperson Carter made the motion to adjo a meeting at 5 M.
