HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-01-2011 • MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA JUNE 1, 2011 Mayor Galligan called the meeting lo order at 9:30 a.m. and on call of the roll those members present were: Engineering Coordinator Lovan and Councilperson Wilson. Also present were: Building Commissioner Segraves, Police Chief Deeringer, City Attorney Wilder, Communications Director Thomas, Fire Chief Kaskie, Parks Director Manor, Vehicle Maintenance Director Vissing, WWTP Director Ashack, Animal Shelter Director Wilder, Financial Advisor Harmon, Safety Director Mongarella, City Engineer Crouch, Events Coordinator Schutz Assistant Fire Chief McCutcheon, Street Commissioner Hosea, Councilperson Smith, Engineering Assistant Dixon, and Second Deputy Clerk Mayfield. Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the minutes of 5 -11 -11 and 5- 25 -11, as presented, seconded by Engineering Coordinator Lovan and carried unanimously. 410 Councilperson Wilson made the motion to approve the payroll as presented, seconded by Engineering Coordinator Lovan and carried unanimously. OLD BUSINESS DOOR TO DOOR SALES Engineering Coordinator 1.ovan said this issue needs to be revisited as there are some problems occurring. It seems that people are knocking on doors and when no one answers they are being broken into. City Attorney Wilder said the ordinance may need revising as well. NEW BUSINESS RIVERSIAE DRIVE SPEED HUMPS Councilperson Smith said he has been asked by residents on Riverside Drive about stop signs being installed at every intersection to slow traffic. Councilperson Smith asked about the possibility of speed humps being installed instead. Mayor Galligan said this would be looked into. • REQUEST TO VACATE ALLEY BETWEEN ALICE AVE. AND NATIONAL AVE. After some discussion, Engineering Coordinator made the motion to deny vacating the alley between Alice Avenue and National Avenue, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. STOP SIGN REQUEST/RURAL KING A Stop Sign was requested at Rural King parking lot. Mayor Galligan said this cannot be done. SMOKIN ON THE RIVER Event Coordinator Sam Schutz asked approval for road closures for Smokin on the River June 16 thru 12 pm June 19, 2011. Engineering Coordinator Lovan made the motion to approve the street closures for Smokin on the River, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously. Schutz also requested permission to hang a banner for the event the week before on Court Avenue. Engineering Coordinator Lovan made the motion to approve the request, seconded by Councilperson Wilson and carried unanimously.
