HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-18-2011 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA May 18, 2011 Engineering Coordinator Rick Lovan sat in for Mayor Galligan and called the meeting to order at 9:37 a.m. and on the call of the roll those members present were Officer Don Grimes sitting in for Engineering Coordinator Rick Lovan and Councilperson Barbara Wilson Also present were: Street Commissioner David Hosea. Animal Shelter Director Harry Wilder, Building Commissioner Russ Segraves, Officer Don Grimes, Safety Director Dominick Mongarella, Police Chief Tim Deeringer, Communications Director Larry Thomas, Planning and Zoning Director Brian Fogle, Emergency Planner Mindy Christian, Fire Cehif David Kaskie, WWTP Director Len Ashack, Assistant Fire Chief Mike McCutcheon, Human Resources Director Kim Calabro, Financial Advisor Monica Harmon, City Engineer Andy Crouch, Assistant City Engineer Bill Dixon, City Attorney Darren Wilder, and Clerk & Treasurers Office Representative Amanda Oelze. Councilperson Barbara Wilson made the motion to approve minutes from May 11, 2011. Officer Don Grimes seconded and passing unanimously. Councilperson Barbara Wilson made the motion to approve payroll, Officer Don Grimes seconded, and passing on a vote of 3 -0. OLD BUSINESS Cypress Road Engineering Coordinator discussed the bushes on Cypress Road. He spoke to the owners and the bushes were actually four forty foot pine trees. They are not willing to move their trees. Engineering Coordinator asked Street Commissioner David Hosea to look at the white line and maybe move it up eight feet. Speed Bump Officer Don Grimes discussed the issue with speeders in Silo Ridge. He stated that they have put officers out there and have issued several tickets. Lacy Rose, who attended the previous meeting, stated that she would have her neighbors sign a petition and Officer Don Grimes would present it at the next meeting. NEW BUSINESS Request for Banner Reverend Moon with Park Place Methodist Church came before the board to request a banner be hung over Court Avenue from June 1" to June 14 for the Oasis Worship Services. Officer Don Grimes made the motion to approve and Councilperson Barbara Wilson seconded, passing unanimously. Request for Street Closure Keith Stayton came before the board to request a street closure on Market from Pearl to Spring St. He also requested portable restrooms, garbage cans, tables, and chairs. He was instructed to get with Parks Director Bob Manor. Councilperson Barbara Wilson made the motion to approve and Officer Don Grimes seconded, passing unanimously. Vacating Alley Harry Grier came before the board to get direction as how to get an alley that has not been used in 30 years vacated. He wants to know what he can do legally and also offered to buy the alley so he can put up a fence and keep people from walking through his yard. City Engineer Andy Crouch will get with Planning and Zoning and Mayor Gailigan. After further discussion, Councilperson Barbara Wilson made the motion to table and Officer Don Grimes seconded, passing unanimously. HVAC Control Contract Building Commissioner Russ Segraves came before the board to request the board to sign the HVAC Control Contract with ECT services. The contract will be renewable for five years and the price is locked in for those five years at $1,536.Councilperson Barbara Wilson made the motion to approve and Officer Don Grimes seconded, passing unanimously. Request Hearts on Sidewalk Dan Christiansen with Clark Memorial Hospital carne before the board to request permission to paint permanent hearts for a walking path around Clark Memorial Hospital. Clark Memorial Hospital will maintain the hearts. Planning and Zoning Director Brian Fogle stated that he had the authority to grant an exemption. Councilperson Barbara Wilson made the motion to approve and Officer Don Grimes seconded, passing unanimously.
