HomeMy WebLinkAbout03-23-2011 MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSONVILLE, INDIANA March 23, 2011 Mayor Galligan called the meeting to order at 9:34 a.m. and on the call of the roll those members present were Engineering Coordinator Rick Lovan and Councilperson Barbara Wilson. Also present were: Parks Director Bob Manor, Vehicle Maintenance Director Bubby Vissing, Street Commissioner David Hosea, Animal Shelter Director Harry Wilder, Officer Don Grimes, Safety Director Dominick Mongarella, Police Chief Tim Deeringer, Communications Director Larry Thomas, WWTP Director Len Ashack, City Engineer Andy Crouch, Assistant City Engineer Bill Dixon, Financial Advisor Monica Harmon, City Attorney Darren Wilder, and Clerk & Treasurer's Office Representative Amanda Oelze. Councilperson Barbara Wilson made the motion to approve minutes from March 16, 2011. Engineering Coordinator Rick Lovan seconded and passing unanimously. Councilperson Barbara Wilson made the motion to approve payroll, Engineering Coordinator Rick Lovan seconded, and passing on a vote of 3 -0. OLD BUSINESS None NEW BUSINESS Request for Street Closure Ben Coomer with Ann's on the River Restaurant came before the board to request a street closure from Market to Spring South on Thursday, April 21 from 3:00 PM to 8 PM and on Friday, April 22 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. They also requested help with parking. There will be public parking signs put up and Street Commissioner David Hosea will put up barricades. Engineering Coordinator Rick Lovan made the motion to approve the street closure and Councilperson Barbara Wilson seconded, passing unanimously. Shaved Dreams, Inc Burt Jackson came before the board to request permission to sell at city -wide locations and events. He was instructed to go to Clerk & Treasurer's department for a vendor permit. There is no need for approval because Mr. Jackson will not be on the streets; he will just be at the events. Request for Handicap Parking Only Sign Clyde Hall came before the board to request a Handicap Parking Only sign in front of his house at 212 Watt. Officer Don Grimes will get Mr. Hall's phone number and will go check it out. Street Commissioner David Hosea will put up the sign. Councilperson Barbara Wilson made the motion to approve the Handicap Parking Only sign, and Engineering Coordinator Rick Lovan seconded, passing unanimously. Request for Bridge Closure Angela Pepplar came before the board to request 2 Street Bridge be closed on June 18 from 8 AM to 12 PM for Families for Father Run /Walk. 100% of the funds will go to free screenings. They requested that the fee be waived because they are a non - profit organization. After further discussion, the board did not grant the fee be waived because if they did it for one organization, then the board would have to do it for all organizations. Engineering Coordinator Rick Lovan made the motion to approve the bridge closure on June 18 from 8 AM to 12 PM, Councilperson Barbara Wilson seconded, passing unanimously. Walnut Ridge Grass Cutting Contracts Building Commissioner Russ Segraves brought before the board the contracts for the grass cutting through Walnut Ridge for the Waterfront and City Hall. There has been no increase from last year. Councilperson Barbara Wilson made the motion to approve the contracts with Walnut Ridge, seconded by Engineering Coordinator Rick Lovan and passing unanimously.
