HomeMy WebLinkAboutFebruary 28, 2011 Special JEFFERSONVILLE CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL SESSION Monday, February 28, 2011 5:30 P.M. City Hall, Mayor's Conference Room The Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville met in Special Session on Monday, February 7, 2011. Council President Mike Smith called the meeting to order at 5:30 P.M., and on call of the roll those members present were: Couneilpersons Mike Smith, Ed Zastawny, Connie Sellers, Barbara Wilson, Wayne Carter, and Nathan Samuel. Councilperson Keith Fetz was absent. Also present were Mayor Tom Galligan and Chief Deputy Clerk Treasurer Suzy Bass. Engineer Controller Rick Lovan appeared before the Council to discuss street lights in the City. Mr. Lovan presented the Council with a priority list that he has compiled from calls he has received. The list contains priorities according to his evaluation of each site. He has visited these areas late in the evening and has met with Duke and/or REMC on each location listed. (attached) He said the City has the option of purchasing lights over time or right away. Ironically, if you purchase over time, the lights will be installed quicker than if you pay for them right away. The Council said that Attorney Mickey Weber is developing an ordinance that will put the responsibility of installing lights on the developers. Council President Smith asked Mr. Lovan to get a price list as soon as possible. Councilperson Carter thanked Mr. Lovan for his work on this project. Engineer Andy Crouch, along with Engineer employee Derek Blair, appeared before the Council to present a sidewalk project wish list. (attached). Mr. Crouch presented a list of all areas to consider for new sidewalks and repair of some existing sidewalks. They are looking into different revenue venues, including TIF and `Safe Routes to School' grants. Mike Cozzin appeared before the Council to inform them that he has complied with the Park Bench ordinance removing his benches from City property. By the I of April, he should have all benches removed. He feels that it is not fair that he has complied but another company from out of state is continuing to install benches on City property. Councilperson Sellers said that the Council is waiting for Attorney Larry Wilder to recommend the next course of action to ensure compliance by everyone. The meeting adjourned at 6:20 P.M.
