PROPOSAL ORDINANCE
Whereas, the Citizens of the City of Jeffersonville have complained of
several severe drainage problems.
Whereas, in some areas of the City of Jeffersonville, development has
come to a halt because of the problems controlling drainage. This greatly
affects the economic as well as population growth in the City of
Jeffersonville. In other areas the quality of life of Jeffersonville residents has
been greatly affected by the severity of the situation.
Whereas, the City of Jeffersonville recently sold a piece of property for the
sum of Three hundred and eighty eight thousand dollars ($388,000.00).
Of that, one hundred ninety thousand,' eight hundred thirty dollars and
eleven cents ($190, 830.11) was repaid to the sewer utility, The amount
retained in the City General Fund is one hundred ninety seven thousand,
one hundred sixty nine dollars and eighty nine cents ($197,169.89).

Whereas, the Common Council of the City of Jeffersonville deems it
necessary and desirable to designate seventy five thousand dollars
($75,000) toward drainage problems.
Now, therefore, be it ordained by the Common Council of
Jeffersonville, Indiana the following:
SECTION 1: MAXIMUM COST
The maximum cost of any one project shall not exceed fifteen thousand
dollars ($15,000.00). No more than twenty thousand dollars ($20,000.00)
shall be spent in any one council district in the City of Jeffersonville.
SECTION 2: PROJECT APPROVAL
Projects shall be evaluated and approved by the City Engineer on a priority
basis. The City Engineer may consult with private firms who are interested
in bidding on the proposed projects.
SECTION 3: PROJECT DEADLINE
In an effort to insure that these projects are done as timely as possible, and
in the season most effective for drainage repair and cleaning, Council
Members shall be requested to turn in letters stating particular problems
within forty-five days from the date of passage to be eligible for
consideration.
